I use my iPhone 12 for personal and work purposes and my work apps require me to change my passcode every 3 months. I was in a rush this week and needed to use my phone when I was prompted to change my passcode - I changed the passcode and have been using FaceID to unlock my phone since then. This morning, it looks like my phone did an update overnight and now I need to unlock the phone with my passcode which I've unfortunately forgotten. I think if I try th e wrong passcode 10 times the device will erase everything.

I have other Apple devices logged in with the same AppleID - is there any way to unlock the phone with another device or to at least back it up so that I can restore it but recover my contents? Is there anything the Apple store can do in this case?

When I connect the phone to my MacBook, it does not show up in finder and the iPhone says to unlock the phone to use the USB accessory - never seen this before

Did you have iCloud Backup turned on? If so, you can wipe the phone and restore from that. If you’re not sure, you can view your iCloud storage in Settings or System Preferences on another device to see if there are any backups.

Otherwise, it sounds like you may be out of luck. Apple store won’t be able to do anything, and you’ll need to know the passcode in order for it to show up on the Mac.

If you use iCloud Photos, Contacts, Calendar, Notes, etc. They will still be in the cloud, so they shouldn’t be lost if you don’t have a backup. Good luck!

^^This.

And, the USB accessory message occurs when a device has not been unlocked in X amount of time (2 hours?).

And phone might not have done an update, just timed-out since last time passcode was input. You are required to enter a passcode at least once every 6.5 days. If you have not, you get the prompt to enter passcode to unlock.

Shouldn't it be possible to do a remote wipe with Find My then use your AppleID and password to deactivate the activation lock? I never done it but every time I reset and iPhone manually it will eventually bring me to the activation lock screen....

Did you have iCloud settings turned on? Even at the bare minimum you'll be able to log into your AppleID on the device and just redownload your apps. Contacts, calendars, notes, etc etc will load right back in...

An Apple store might be able to get it to the activation lock screen. Again requiring your AppleID and Password.

If you work is going to make you reset the password everything 3 months they should actually be providing you with an iPhone with Mobile Device Management (MDM) on. Then THEY can set and reset your password. I mean how many of you co workers are using 123456789? Or 'Password'? Merely to not be bother by it.
