This is my first macbook pro (2.4 penryn). Everytime from awaking, the Superdrive makes that single "whoops" sound. Anyway to suppress that? Why does it do that when there is no disc in there?

All drives do this. It's checking to see if you have a CD inside. I'm not sure of any way to suppress this, sorry!

INT. LIVING ROOM/DESK - NIGHT

Jack sits at his computer desk, pants down, sock ready, lotion out.

He opens the lid.

WHIIIIRRRRRR!

Joanne, Jack's wife, comes out of the bedroom, turns on the light in the living room.

JOANNE
Honey? Did you hear a noise--? OH, MY!!

Jack is startled. Tries to pull hs pants up quickly.

JACK
What?!? Er, no, this isn't--

JOANNE
No wonder you never touch me anymore.

Joanne storms back into the bedroom, slamming the door.

FADE OUT.

heh..."The Internet is for Porn" - Avenue Q

Anyway, I think I know what the OP is talking about. When I'm in class and open my MB it's fairly loud and people look at you, so maybe he is wanting to supress the sound so it doesn't distrub anyone around him if he's in a place where he needs to be quiet, ie class, library, work, etc...or it could be because he needs to please himself late at night ;)

Well, then maybe he shouldn't be doing that "stuff" in class either.

Its not THAT loud or disturbing and only lasts a split second. If its loud enough that people turn to look at you then you must be in EXTREME silence.

Is there anyway to supress the loud piano-like noise when you start the os up?

It's not awful, however it is quite annoying in a class when I pull my computer out of sleep. That's why I usually do it before the lecture starts.
