Yes there are faces that give you all the same info BUT they all dim. I've actually made faces for the Galaxy watch and there is no way around it, they all dim.

It was a huge complaint about the Galaxy watch. People wanted a true AOD. There is no way Samsung (or any company for that matter) will implement one with current technology because it absolutely destroys the battery life.

Mine was bright pink and stayed on. It just had the time.

That's awesome I'm sure it did stay on but it still dimmed, it's just the way the watch works. The only way to keep it from not dimming is to use a third party app to keep it alive.

The lack of the AOD was what stopped me from buying an Apple Watch prior to the series 5. It didn’t even look like a watch to me.

I’m checking the time without raising my wrist quite often.

I do it all the time also. It's especially useful when I'm exercising or when in a social situation (such as a meeting) where I need a discreet time check.

The color/full-color AOD was introduced on the Samsung Gear S3 and Gear Sport IIRC. On the S2 it was more a 'black/white limited mode' face.

What made you buy the series 5 if you don't use it? You just wanted the latest version?

I thought AOD would be something I could turn off and get even more battery life. However, after using it, it really adds more value than I thought. Now, it's a watch.

Yep. I see posts all the time from people who don't have the S5 who say it doesn't really add much. Once you get used to having the screen always visible it's just so nice.

I was almost one of those people. It’s really one of those things you have to experience.

Even though I’m complaining about how the AOD is implemented, I was thinking about it yesterday and I won’t switch it off. I’d miss not having it now!

It’s a treasure.

I like AOD and now I use it would never go back from not having one....I think it looks the best with my nike watch face where the info graph the time seems too small but on the nike ones it's bigger.

when I switched off AOD I really didn't see a noticeable difference from on to off...my watch is normally on about 30% when I go to bed and for me thats fine as it lasts all day. I charge my devices at night anyway.

I bought the Series 5 because I was stupid. I bought the Series 3 initially just to have an Apple watch. The Series 3 demo was in front of a large graphic of that cool 'infographic' watch face, and it was lower priced than the Series 4 at the time, so I thought it was a good choice. It wasn't until after I realized the Series 3 doesn't have the Infographic face I felt like an idiot. I kept asking how to download/find it and was told it was a Series 4 exclusive.

I wanted to wait until later in 2020 to get a discounted price on the Series 4 but then Apple went and told Best Buy and every single retailer in town who carries the Apple Watch to remove existing stock and only carry the 3 and 5. So that plan was shot. I ended up getting the 5 because that was the only one available at the time that had that watch face. I certainly cared nothing of the stupid AOD. No more than I cared about it being a standard Samsung Galaxy Watch feature for years prior.

I'm wearing my 3 now though because my Series 5 is a broken pile of garbage. It fails to detect workouts now, Music is keen on 'deleting' certain tracks out of personalized playlists, it has a massive wifi/bluetooth handoff bug, it detects 'falls' when my arm hasn't moved, and stand ring is hard to close since I have to shake my hand like an idiot and do a little dance to make it count each hour. It also has poor speed, it stutters and is so much slower than my Series 3 for some reason. It also has a horrible microphone. Can't tell Siri to do anything if a radio, fan or TV is on in the same room.

Sounds like you have a broken S5. I, and most people here, have no such issues.

It was rushed. The 4 was only out a few months around my city and then it was GONE and replaced with the 5. The 5 is slow, laggy and unreliable. I wish I could find a 4 somehow to find out if it's any better. I just wanted the Infograph face. I still believe it's possible to offer a limited version of it on the 3 and just not use corner complications. It's so stupid of Apple to not at least give us the full face set. My 3 aside the lack of good faces is an excellent watch.

The Infograph Modular should be capable of running on the S3, along with the nicer complications for Weather, Earth (not just Moon), and so on.

My Series 5 has no scratches or abuse. It's not used or reconditioned. It still looks great. Screen and watch faces all work fine. But all it's good for is telling time and being nicer in a more formal setting than my aluminium S3. That's all it's going to be since I'm out of the return period (14-days Best Buy) as I was attempting to figure out what all was wrong with it.

I don't even know what the 5 does that the 4 couldn't aside AOD. Was one lousy feature really worth deleting an entire stock of Series 4 watches only months after launch? If the 5 had waited till Fall 2020 maybe it'd be better.

You mention Best Buy, so I presume you live in the US, Canada or Mexico. Presuming that's true, the S4 was out for a year before the S5 came out. I can't say why it was only out for a few months in your city, but that doesn't match with the release schedules of the devices.

Again, there's something wrong with your individual Apple Watch S5. It doesn't require physical damage to have a bad RAM module, a malfunctioning gyroscope, or a firmware corruption. Get your watch serviced or replaced under Apple's warranty before it's too late.

Yes, other than the AOD display and associated circuitry, there's not much major change between it and the S4 (other differences are the addition of a compass module and an upgrade to 32GB of storage). Otherwise, the S5 processor and the S4 processor are the same, so speed/responsiveness should be identical. I can tell you my S5 is much more responsive than my S3 was, though the S3 is no slouch either.

And as for whether or not Apple could have done more with watch faces for the S3, I can't debate you there, but it is what it is and it doesn't look like Apple's planning on any immediate changes. I direct you to https://www.apple.com/feedback/

I don’t mind charging mine every night. Right now mine is on 34% and I took it off the charger at 06:50 this morning.

I've seen you complaining about your Series 5 and the issues it has several times on this forum. I'm wondering why you haven't taken it to Apple yet since it comes with a year warranty. The issues you're saying it has is definitely not issues everyone else is having.

If you have been in one social setting where you needed to know the time but couldn't glance and had to fumble with your watch and hope no one notices, you'll appreciate the AoD so much...

Went for a long drive last night. Gliding in and out of wet pockets of darkness for about 3 hours. Many of these roads were dimly lit or nit lit at all. It made me really appreciate the AOD. I could have my hand up on the steering wheel and peek down at my wrist, because yeah, it’s like a regular watch now. However, the other thing I got to experience was when things got dark, I still had the light of my instrument cluster but I also was accompanied by the glow of my watch, because, yes, it’s a smart watch. And that’s just it. Being able to peek at the infograph the whole trip and seeing that customized display of information, even in the dark, without moving.

i would’ve taken a picture, but even on a road with nobody around, I wasn’t going to start fumbling with my phone while driving.

I’m still considering taking it off just to see what happens, but, let’s face it, I'm getting too much satisfaction from it to cut it off permanently.

Been using my AW 5 with AOD on for the first time ever for the last few days. I charge every day anyway so not really noticing much of a difference. Really liking it - can't imagine I've used my AW 5 this long with it off just cuz I thought there would be a massive difference in battery life.

I wonder how susceptible the OLED is to burn in with AOD on? Is it likely at all?

I have read on several forums how it moves around the pixels to keep the burn-in from happening. Never seen official support to this idea tho, I just see it everywhere (honestly, haven't spent a lot of time looking for it).

With good reason. For the first watch that has an always on display one of the most important things they had to be concerned about was burn-in.
