Switched mine off after a few days. At night, I put the phone in flight mode and that kept the AOD on.

Question: the AOD seems kind of dark. I mean I can read the time and can just about make out the background photo, but it doesn’t exactly pop. Is that normal?

My Apple Watch is still easier to look at than pulling my phone out of my pocket. I seldom leave my phone laying around where I could take advantage of the always on screen. I am loving my new Ultra!
Awesome. Been thinking of getting that and selling my Green Series 7

This is normal. Think of it similar to Apple Watch AoD; dimmed down and more subdued. The lower brightness saves battery.

On. I appreciate seeing stuff at a glance, including whether I have any notifications. My phone is usually sitting on my desk or counter or coffee table or similar.

Sure I have a watch too, but then I gotta stop typing or shift my kindle to my other hand or other action if doing something where my watch isn’t facing me. I love watch AOD for many situations but many times it’s just easier to glance at the phone.

I tried it for about an hour when I first received the phone and hated it. I tried it again earlier this week and still hated it. Most likely keeping it off until I find a reason to like it.

I have it off. First setting I changed out of the box. Just as invested in the apple environment as the rest of you, I get my notifications across all my devices for the most part, so no real need for it. Also, dont really like others being able to see my notifications if I leave it around. If apple's implementation was more than just a dimmed screen maybe I would turn it back on.

I tried this from first day of availability until this morning. Turned it off!

Biggest problem is camera, it isn’t clear when it is ready to take a tap on the icon or swipe to left. Picking up the phone and taking a photo or video as quickly as possible is a very common use case.

It does not work to think it’s ready and then realize it wasn’t and then so the action again.

It’s better to just have a blank screen and know the phone is obviously ready to go to camera mode.

Since I use AOD on my apple watch, i feel it's a bit redundant to have AOD on my phone as well. Therefore, I will be keeping mine turned off.

I never turned it off in my android days, but don't miss it in my current iPhone 12 Pro Max. I simply don't care either way. This should have been a poll option.

I picked up a pro max today because my daughter shattered her second se in 3 weeks, and is now getting my 13 mini (which still has AppleCare!!). Leaving it on because either way the pro max is better battery wise than the mini

Nice, I got the 14 Pro Max originally at launch and returned it for the 14 Pro. Size and Battery is very nice but for daily use, the Max phones are too damn cumbersome to use.

I'm a bit surprised that people would immediately turn this off. Wouldn't it be interesting to try it for a week or two before deciding?
I had the same thought. I was not excited about it from the Apple Event. I wanted to try it out though. I’ve used and enjoyed it much more than I imagined. Battery life has been excellent. I’ve read a couple of posts where the tone made it sound like turning it off immediately was a well deserved gut punch to Tim Cook or something. Maybe I’m misreading. It is funny though that prior to this year I feel like everyone was clamoring for Always on Display.

I’m asking this with zero snarkiness, what did you hate about it? Just curious.

One thing I’ve noticed I don’t like, which is why I have it off is, if it is on, notifications don’t ping through on my watch.

I think this is something they will end up fixing but in the meantime, it’s bloody annoying.

I just don’t like the screen being on all time, seems unnecessary to me. Glad there’s an option to have it off or on, so people can choose.
Right, but I hope Apple gives options of how AOD is displayed in a future update.

Sure, that would be good too. I’d be more likely to use it if I could configure what is actually displayed when the display goes into low power mode.

decided to off after a day of novelty. not worth the battery and screen wear if the plan is to keep the phone for more than 2 years
