Hi all,

I have a simple question that the internet has no immediate answer.

With macOS 10.13 and APFS, are .DS_Store files now a thing of the past?

Best wishes

Because .DS_Store contains metadata that could be easily integrated into APFS.

It could also be integrated into HFS+. Doing so, though, would stick the metadata to the file system, so when moving the folder to a different computer, it gets lost. Hence putting it in the folder.

I only ever saw the .DS files when browsing my Mac volumes from Windows and since Windows is unable to browse APFS volumes I have no idea if they are still there.

No. Still there. But now they are not shown even with show hidden files in finder. I found them with Find My File app
