I've always been frustrated by how cumbersome it is to move apps around in the iPhone / iPod OS, so I made this mockup of how I think it should be handled on iTunes. If it gets a good reception, maybe I'll submit it to Engadget or Gizmodo or something.

I love the video. though when I read the title I thought you meant a way to manage the entire collection of apps(instead of itunes listing them in abc order

I have over 3000 applications and you just can't reasonably browse through the applications like that.

I do think they should add this functionality though, it's a pain to change around 5 apps, let alone an entire page full

I took the original abc order that iTunes and my basic concept was that when you plug your iPod / iPhone would load every screen and when you press the "sort apps" button you can edit every screen you have on your device. The Sort By buttons are there because sometimes I would like to have my most used apps in the first screen and the ones I use less in the back screens.

Submit it to engadget, gizmodo, and put it on the toucharcade.com forums. This is a brilliant idea. Apple needs to see this.

EDIT: BTW, is that made with Keynote '09? or '08?

that was a freakin sweet video.

I hope making videos like that is your job cause if its not then maybe it should be.

Also the concept is just... awesome. Hope it gets done, although apple does have a trend of not listening to customers.

Maybe they don't like to admit that they've been excluding a necessary feature. :p

No idea why they don't already have this...it doesn't seem that it would be a particularly difficult feature to implement.

I think it's a great concept. Great job with putting it together. Gotta love Keynote!

Definitely submit it to engadget, gizmodo and any other tech blogs. The more this is promoted, the more likely Apple will develop a similar idea.

    Thanks for the video.

First off great video. This is what apple should have don't once the app store went live.
And for the post above apple should make time for this.

Nice Job! I hope apple implements something like this into iTunes. It would be so much easier to move apps around with a mouse.

I like the idea, but what happens if the states of the screens become out of sync? Like making changes in itunes and the iPhone in between syncs - which should the system 'listen' to? Should it prompt the user every time they're out of sync?

And what of apps that are downloaded, but not on the phone? Do they just vanish during the UI customization?

I like the idea ... but it needs a little more time to bake to be 100% crazy awesome.

Perhaps a box pops up that says the screens are out of sync. Then (like in mobileme sync) you can choose show details and choose which you want to replace/keep (keep computer version or version on iPhone)

So you have 1 in 7 of every single app available in the store? Not only is that hard to believe, it is just plain stupid. If you review them or something, I could see that, but delete, man, delete!
