Can you do that before setting up your accounts? Would be a bit pointless otherwise as it’s probably already scanned and shared your data before you turn of the setting.
Yes, you will be prompted to opt-out during the setup process. Read the prompts slowly and carefully.

A wise person would also use an e-mail account that has no messages/no archive/no notes/no address book for the initial setup. I have several such IMAP accounts. No data = no data mining = no ad revenue fodder. Give them valid login credentials for an empty account.

The first post-setup step would be to open up the application settings and go through them thoroughly a few times to make sure to turn off features, etc. that you don't want to be involved with. Review these periodically to make sure they don't try to sneak in new undesirable "features."

Personally I would never use my primary e-mail account with a brand new e-mail client.

Trust is EARNED.

Another notable feature of the Edison app is that it scans your mailbox and sells your data to the highest bidder ...

Thanks for this link.. why I didn't understand that this is one of those services I will never know.. trying to be hip and cool I guess.
I keep trying to better my e-mail situation, only to fall right into these self-inflicted traps.
Also, my current e-mail situation still doesn't at all require a service or app like Edison or any other "let's help you get your mail organized. We won't read your e-mail. We promise(heheheheh)"

Deleted Edison and the service right after reading vice's article. Should have known better. I still have a Facebook account - they most certainly doesn't sell any of my data to anyone and I can say exactly what I want. Like writing Tommy Robinson on my page.

Might as well just use all the apps - I'm halfway through my life(or thereabouts). What more can go wrong.

Never tried Apple's Mail? There's nothing missing.
Muting email notifications from selected senders is always a hassle in any IT company. This is never easy to do in reality, therefore Apple has deliberately not integrated such an idea.

1 BIG thing missing is: you cannot have rules sync in Mail with the server (on Mac nor on iOS).

Apple should have all their employees use their hardware and software in order to be fully knowledgeable of what they offer. Especially the executives and it heavily shows that Mail has barely received any powerful updates or any at all in a timely manner over the last 12yrs (MAC or iOS). We get some updates but not all

It’s also THE ONLy iOS mail app handler that doesn’t allow collapsible folders.

it’s ITs job to find and deploy solutions regarding spam. Ignoring spam and junk mail is NOt the answer.

Replaced Apple Mail with PostBox ( https://www.postbox-inc.com ) a few years ago, the file/attachment and photos views are brilliant if you get sent a lot of documents.
This looks like a good app. I saw on the website it says they don't scan your emails or collect personal data. It's not free but I said before if it's free then you're probably the product being sold.

Love Edison Mail, clean interface and quick. If Apple Mail could to push notifications for Gmail then I'd use that. Aside from Outlook, which I just use for work, Edison Mail has been the best for me that has Gmail push.

I would never use a "free" app like a mail reader because it'll just be data mined.
What about a free OS? How about those free browsers? What about free forums within those free browsers? I would never use them because it’s all being data mined.

I’ll continue to use “free“ apps fairly freely, as in my case they are mining in my pretty worthless data dump. :)

I like Edison mail, and Microsoft’s free Outlook mail app.
