I don't know how to express the title best.

The best way to sum it up is an outline that can be easily collapsed for more convenient viewing. For example, if I have an outline like:

  • Subject 1
    • Blah 1
    • Blah 2
    • Blah 3
  • Subject 2
    • Blah 1
    • Blah 2
    • Blah 3
I would like to be able to collapse the additional details under each subject when I'm not referring to them. My case use for this will be when I'm practicing interpretation. I'd like to get a bunch of terms and expressions, and add additional details under each entry - details that I can see when I'm not practicing and just reading idly, and details I can hide when I'm actually practicing. Printing is completely optional for me.

I used to use this feature on Circus Ponies NoteBook, but the company doesn't exist anymore.

I think you mean nested notes. Give Outline a try. There is a fully functional demo available from the developer's website and they have been working in a way to import Circus Ponies Notebook documents into Outline.

+1 for Outine as it's solid and lots of update as of late.
