On double-clicking the home button you can see the apps that are currently running. However, some of the screen shots of these apps can be of earlier screens, or uses of the app. If you are not the only one to use an iPad this can be a problem - you can read Facebook or Twitter posts etc. Is there any way of clearing the cache held by the iPad of app images?

Those images represent the last state of that app when it was open. You can replace an image by opening the app, changing what's visible by going to another page, bringing up a menu, etc., then close the app. When you double-tap the Home button, the image will be the last state in which you left the app.

Generally yes, but not always! I have seen screen shots of very old states, be it Netflix, Safari etc. This would be after those apps have been quit and relaunched. I was hoping there was a way of deleting the app usage history.

there isnt and that is the problem. when you are the only user and a people stairing the screen, no problem, but if you arent then it is. may even lead to an embarrasing situation...
