With these kind of sales figures i really don't understand why Dungeons was shelved? Surely it wasn't a financial decision!?

This is in no way a freemium game.

I know its not, but this promotion shows how people are willing to download free games and the buy a ton of related content or addons.

It showed the power of the freemium model and no doubt developers are going to take note IMHO.

I was going to comment on all the lost sales, but I feel like that's negligible now.
