Here's mine listed in order of desirability:

    - Conversion metrics: How many people look at my app's page vs how many people buy. Also if they leave, did they go to a competitors page via the "also bought" links?

    - Referrer stats: Where did the user come from. Was it a google ad, macrumors, some other place?

    - Some visibility into the process of app approval as well as clarity on what exactly "duplicates functionality" means (how many clocks are there in the app store...they clearly duplicate functionality of Clock, but are accepted anyway).

    - Scrub reviews from people who didn't actually download your app from when reviewing the app was possible w/o download/purchase.

    What's yours?

Is there a "duplicates" guideline Apple imposes? Or maybe I am reading it wrong. As you mention, there are so many duplicate apps (tic tac toe for example) I am surprised if there was such a criteria.

There's an unwritten policy that you can't duplicate the iPhone's existing native functionality. An app that downloaded podcasts over the air was rejected for duplicating itunes functionality.

And that really sucks. I'd love the option to have third party browsers and media players.

You can duplicate other developer's apps. Just not Apple's more important apps, especially in such a way so as to confuse some typical user, or encourage users to migrate away from the "Apple way" of using their iPhone. Clock face apps and stock tickers don't do that. But I don't think I would try to submit an app that takes users away from Safari and iTunes.

I hate reviews that don't reference which version of the app the review was about. There are lots of apps that have long ago fixed the bugs reported in early reviews which still pop to the top of the list.
