well, the hackers also approved 100,000 download. :D :D

According to AppShopper, Apple's App Store has surpassed 100,000 approved iPhone and iPod touch applications. The mark is an unofficial milestone, however, as the count of currently available applications stands at only approximately 92,000. The difference results from the removal of applications from the App Store by either Apple or the applications' developers.

Apple's most recent official announcement of App Store application count occurred in late September, when the store surpassed two billion downloads with 85,000 available apps. The 85,000-app figure was repeated at Apple's earnings conference call earlier this week.

App Store Not Sustainable

Lets see I have about 50 apps on my phone but I only use a few regularly like NeuroMobile, some news readers and a few others. Most of my apps are free and the others I stopped using after using them a few times. If my usage pattern projects developers can't be making money. If developers are not making money the app store bubble will burst once developers realize that three are no riches to made. Certainly there will still be app support but you want see the ridicules numbers that are claimed now.

... I agree...

I agree. The App store will wear many of the individual developers down and submissions will drop. It is hard to make a decent app/game, but even harder to market it without spending serious cash. I think many developers, me included, got interested in the iPhone a while back, when it still seemed possible to get a little attention around your app/game given it had value. I will probably do my second app just for fun and because I would like to carry out the idea, I realize I can not expect to rise above the clutter unless I get a little lucky (or make a truly brilliant app :))

I edit iPhone application reviews for a major review website - and I've definitely noticed a large increase in the number of very small (I'd say backyard) developers from all around the world trying to get their piece of the Apple pie.

From my experience, the apps that do well are very unique or have taken a winning concept from another platform and customized it with all of the features of the iPhone in mind. Marketing also plays a huge role, and the developers with the cash to back large-scale advertising and promotional programs are the ones who end up winning.

100,000 apps.

That is a lot of apps to sift through, even if the apps store was somewhat more organized
