Apple is sooooo close of distancing itself from its customers. How much more money you want and need without delivering ground breaking technology.
Apple will next year introduce more ads in the App Store "to increase opportunity" in search results, the company has announced.

According to an update to Apple's Ads website, additional ads will appear across search queries, appearing at the top as well as further down in App Store results, and existing campaigns won't need to do anything to be eligible.
Apple explains that the ad format will remain the same – a default or custom product page, and an optional deep link. Advertisers and developers won't see a change in their billing, which will remain based on Apple's cost-per-tap model, so developers only pay when a user taps on an ad. Apple displays ads based on a combination of bid amount and an app's relevance to the search query, with ad matching done automatically.
The new App Store ads will appear on devices running iOS 26.2 and later from the beginning of 2026. For further details, check out Apple's Ads website.

This is where links to the app(s) would be better for sure. Although, Apple would rather your business set up MDM, and if you think the AppStore is bad, just wait till you see JAMF 😱😳It struck me that at my workplace, the instructions for installing an app specifically had to say to NOT select the first result when you searched for the specific app’s name. It’s a bad experience both for casual users and for businesses.
I know Apple is on the corporate treadmill having to make more & more money every single quarter for eternity, but this seems like a strong disincentive to visit the Apple Store. I’ve already trained myself to ignore the first few apps when I search for something specific. This makes it sound like there will be more garbage apps everywhere. 🤮
Not true here. The more they act like android the more I’m heading in that direction. Love my Apple stuff but more ads and I’m out. They really know nobody is dropping their iPhone for anything else, regardless of what they do 😅
I liked your comment, but you’re assuming third party app stores will never be flooded with adds. Given that everyone is trying to make money if Apple is doing it, others will follow… 😕Seems risky, giving governments more reasons to support side-loading, when iPhone users have no choice but to use the App Store and see the ads.

That's why it's good to have alternative marketplaces - and that governments are passing legalisation to make them possible. The ability to have competition for business in the space is the best bulwark against such tactics.
My mom just switched to androidThey really know nobody is dropping their iPhone for anything else, regardless of what they do 😅
While it’s not paid advertising, they insert Apple News stories sometimes. You have to scroll down to actually see the forecast.Wonder when we'll get ads in Weather. Green line must go up.
I concur. It's sad to see, how the business models of Apple and Google are slowly converging.
I know you are right and I see the problem when I open App Store. If my mother had used an iPhone she would have downloaded all the ad crap that pops up instead of the correct searched item."The ads are for the ten global huge apps"
Next year you'll have even more of those.
"App Store is solely used to update my current apps."
That only makes this a "nothing problem" for you.
A lot of us use a lot more than that with the app store.
Just another way of saying “Apple is doomed”, which apparently it’s not. MR can be an echo chamber at times. It doesn't matter what they have in their coffers, what matters is: increased value for shareholders. That's it that's all.
Doesn't matter they have a trillion liquid dollars, doesn't matter if they have a monopoly on smartphones. The only thing and I mean only thing that matters: is if Tim Cook can move the needle of value just a little bit more. Increased value for shareholders.
First they made good products, that's how they did it. It has just slowly evolved to this. No company is infinite. Even Apple. Someday people will be scratching their heads as Apple undergoes a hostile corporate firesale "but they're worth so much". Doesn't matter. There's a finite limit to how much you can squeeze. Apple will hit it someday.
The App Store has become like "trying to find good food in a casino".
If you've been to Las Vegas, you know what I mean.
