App store update button doesn't update... just opens app?

Did some searching but can't find anything. When I click the update button in the app store on my iphone 5 it just opens the app... doesn't update.

What's up wit dat?

My fix for update

i have had this problem several times with my iPod touch and recently with my brothers iPad as well.

i couldn't find anything that would fix the problem directly but i tried a few things and here is what i did to fix it.

go into your setting then app store and set it to automatically update apps.

this way your apps will be updated on their own and you won't need to manually hit the update button ( broken button link ).
