I remember reading, and I can't find for the life of me the name of the app that lets you monitor what apps are calling home.

I recently found out stuffit was calling home and this annoyed the crap out of me.

Little Snitch is the most popular one.

GlowWorm is an alternative to Little Snitch, its not as easy as Little Snitch, but it has a nice free version that does the jobwell.
