hi,

any suggestions what application to use to cut up long music mixes and create a new one?

I have plenty of 2-8 hour music mixes where I'd like to cut out segments and make my own party mix from.

thanks!

The only utility I know of that has the ability to trim and re-save mp3 files in NATIVE mp3 format is something called "MP3 Trimmer".

This means that the file is NOT
- decompressed before editing into an AIFF or something else
- edited, and then...
- RE-compressed back into mp3 (which means the file goes through "the lossy process" AGAIN, losing more audio info).

MP3 Trimmer (again) worked with the file "natively", no de- or re-compression.

There may now be OTHER utilities that can do this, but I don't know of them.

However, THERE'S A PROBLEM:
MP3 Trimmer IS NOT 64-bit compatible -- meaning it will run ONLY with OS Mojave or earlier.
This excludes all m-series Macs.

But IF you have an Intel-based Mac, and IF you're using Mojave or earlier, it's the best there is.

If anyone knows of a modern app that can work with mp3 files in their native format, please let us know...

I already use Piezo, which i like a lot. Cheers!
Rogue Amoeba’s apps are all great, even if not cheap.

if your long music mix has short gaps between tracks, then Fission should automatically detect them - to save some manual time - and to apply splits and turn each track into separate chapterised files.

I have some 2-8 hour non-stop electro mixes where I would like to cut out the highlights and merge them into my person best of mix.

Dumb question on my part as I have never tackled this big a task. GarageBand can't do this? Free and is stock.

I’ve used it in the past to cut/paste mp3s to make ringtones.

not a dumb question. it looks like it won't let me import large audio files. if it is possible with garageband, it seems to be a rather cumbersome process. Fission lets me import files quickly, scrub threw them with ease and cut and export segments in a heart beat. will play a little more around with the free demo version before I decide to buy it or not.
