I'm looking for a application to keep the backlight on for a certain amount of time before allowing the system to kick in.

Is there anything out that like that? I've searched the store and google and haven't found anything like that which is surprising considering there's what, 80,000+ apps and none to keep the screen on?

What do you mean "system kicking in"?

You can set the amount of time the display stays on using System Preferences > Energy Saver. This is a separate setting from system sleep.

where is "Energy Saver" and "System Preferences"? I see neither in Settings.

My mistake - sorry. Was thinking Mac, not iPhone. Totally missed the category. My fault. I did that.

The only thing you can do on the iPhone (as you've found) is to set the AutoLock time. You could have an app disable the autolock, and set its own timeout, but it couldn't run in the background due to Apple's API restrictions.

Again, sorry I missed the category.
