Aside from personal self-control, are there any apps out there that work to keep the i telephone from being a source of distraction? say on a date, or while trying to get work done or read an analog book? please don't flame me for asking... i'm sure most people can identify with the annoyance of people in social situations whipping their phones out at every lull (not lul) in the conversation or the frustration of trying to get work done and continually finding yourself thumbing around on it instead

Google "pomodoro technique" and get an app called "untime." Works pretty well for me for work. On a date it's the mute switch and self control :)

Turn it off. No law says you must be a slave to your phone...
