Does this exist in the app store?

I don't mean one that necessarily controls elements within the OS itself, just accesses things like documents and media?

Exactly what I was looking for! I see I can even access everything outside my home network.

Now, where is the 1GB iPad so that I can save me some monies?

VNC or RDP client apps. There are almost 2 dozen in the App store. (RDP might work with iRAPP on the Mac). There's also an X11 app, a Citrix ICA client and and VMWare view client. Also SSH if you just need command line access.
