Installed my APP3 yesterday and I'm not really satisfied. I hear myself when I'm on a call. Not like an echo, but more like when you have transparency mode on. Even though it's not.

Anyone else experiencing the same thing?

Elaboration:

I'm so incredibly pedantic about this kind of thing, so I don't know if there's actually something wrong or not. Returning the AirPods and getting a 'We can't find anything wrong' would be so typical. But at the same time:
  • I hear myself as if my voice is coming through a radio signal. Faint, but it's still there. Talking on the phone is very strange experience, to put it simply.
  • Tons of situations make it feel like I'm chewing on aluminum foil. For example: Grinding my teeth together, drying myself with a towel over my head, taking off/putting on a hat, eating.

...and maybe this is the kind of thing that is accepted…? 🤔 OTOH, my APP2 didn't have this kind of issues.

You're supposed to be able to hear yourself a little bit during a voice call. It's a feature called "sidetone". Without that feedback, the call won't "sound right". It would seem like you're talking into a dead hole.
In your case, it seems like that feedback isn't working right. I don't have the APP3 so I can't comment on those. But I agree that my APP2 don't have distortion in the sidetone audio.

Update: I was drilling the other day and the noise cancelling definitely doesn’t work. In fact, the drilling sound became even louder! Not a pleasant experience at all. 😵
I’m returning these now.

I have returned 2 pairs of APP3s. I found them to be a worse experience than the 2s in every way. White noise when no audio playing, transparency was worse, they would constantly turn the volume down while I was listening to them, connectivity issues, etc

I’ve been through many sets of AirPods and never encountered these issues before. Wish I hadn’t have missed all the deals on APP2s. My dog ate one of my old ones which is why I upgraded at all

My APP2 in transparency had perfect side tone for calls. The APP3s sounded like my ears were clogged for my own voice. Maddening
