"Hi! My name is Jay, and I'm a part of Apple's Canada Online Store. I hear you. I certainly apologize for the inconvenience. Apple has not released a time, but it could be anytime after Midnight PST. I would recommend starting to check after then. Thank you for your patience."
 
I just spoke with someone from Apple in the UK and they have said they don't know what time pre orders will start.

Great.... Do I wake up just before midnight or wait until the morning arghh

PST/EST vs PDT/EDT.

So according to the carrier sites (verizon and att) Preorders start at 12:01 PST/3:01 EST... so pre-orders really start at 11:01/2:01

This thread it throwing me off... I set my alarm for 2:40 AM Easter time. Now I don't know what time it willl actually go live. #

Its probably some kid that doesn't know what they are talking about. 3am Eastern time is what it has always been.

I had to do 3 seperate orders for the iPhone 5. I'm not sure if that has or will change but I assume it's to slow down the resellers.
 
They make it 12:01AM PST because people are too stupid to realize which day 12:00AM PST would be. I'm serious.

Along the same lines, I don't believe any airlines schedule flights for 12:00am. They're always 11:59pm or 12:01am. I believe the reasoning in their case is so there's absolutely no confusion as to which day it is scheduled.
 
1st line of this Verge article says 3:01 EST but I'm still setting my alarm for 12:01 EST

Hi everyone. Please think back to when you last bought a Macintosh. You started setup assistant and one of the first screens showed you the time zone. It defaulted to "Cupertino". Cupertino is the Greenwich of the Apple universe. Everything is synched up with Cupertino time, not New York.

Yep.... as so many other have stated: Preorders start on APPLE TIME which is pacific time! i'll be setting my alarm to get up about 11:50/11:55.
