I'd appreciate some help with this weird problem. I am applying for an apartment. The property management uses AppFolio to verify income by connecting to my bank to view deposits. I have used similar apps before with no problem. However, no matter what I try, I cannot make the connection to my online banking. I have tried Safari, Chrome and FireFox; the wifi here in my airbnb and my hotspot; but I always get "unexpected error," "incorrect sign-in," or this strange popup asking for a verification number that never comes and I don't have. I have reached out to AppFolio in hopes of a reply. I have checked with my bank and they say they have no blocks on the account and nothing to do with how AppFolio works. I will also ask the property management realtor today but have little hope in that. Using this app means my application is seen sooner and given priority (let's not get into the issues with that). I am on a MacBook Air MI, 2020, running Monterey 12.4.

Just a wild guess... If you have 2FA enabled on your bank account, you could try disabling it temporarily to see if that makes a difference. Sometimes 3rd party software doesn't play nice with 2FA.

I had a similar issue for a totally different situation. In my case, I had to temporarily disable 2FA in order to connect my bank account to Venmo via their Plaid integration. Once it was connected, I could re-enable it again.

iStorm, that could be it. But ... how do I check to see if 2FA is enabled on my bank account? I'll search online, but would appreciate any tips from you. Many thanks!

2FA is two-factor authentication, which means you need something else besides your password. When you log into your bank account directly on their site, do they text you a number/code or anything like that to enter in, or do you use an authenticator app? If not, then then you probably don't have 2FA enabled if all you're needing to use is your password. Otherwise, look around in your online bank account's security settings to see if there is anything for two-factor authentication.
