Hello, I would like to kindly ask someone who owns an apple 23" ACD to tell me if the 1680x1050 and 1440x900 resolutions are supported. And if it's not too much trouble to list the supported resolutions available for this display.

The Apple website only shows 1920x1200, 1280x800, 1024x640.
    Many thanks in advance.

    The native resolution is 1900x1200.

Using anything other than this resolution will result in a slightly blurry, not very clear picture. LCD screens look their best when using the native (optimum) resolution. CRT's look good at any resolution which was their advantage over LCD's.

Why do you want to vary the resolution?

Well I also want to use it for gaming, and 1680x1050 seems a less graphic intesive resolution for this purpose than 1920x1200. Can you tell me if the 23" ACD supports 1680x1050 or 1440x900 ?

I can't answer that - but your games won't look very good unless you use the native resolution.

Don't buy an ACD 23" Display. Apple is using defective LCD panels in their 23" and 24" displays and computers, as they've been doing for years. These displays have chronic problems with uneven backlighting, fading colors and whites that appear yellow along the sides. You'd be better off getting a cheaper display from another manufacturer, Apple's displays are not worth the money, unfortunately.

After having problems with all 4 23" ACDs purchased for our studio, we had to send them all back and got 4 Dell 24" displays for the same price it cost for 3 of Apple's. Plus, the image quality on the Dell display is much better than the 23" ACD. Backlighting and colors are even from edge to edge, no fading or yellowing. Only peeve with the Dells is that they are very bright even on the lowest setting. But, compared to the ACD's problems, that's nothing.

Thank you for your feedback, I will also consider the Dell 2407wfp-hc. Your experience with defective panels on apple displays could very well explain the fact that they use H-IPS 24" panels on new 24" iMacs, which are MORE EXPENSIVE than the machine itself... unless they were a bit defective and were sold for a lot less...

There are not that many problems with the 23" ACD. Mine is fantastic and they have better backlights than the dell's.

The two resolutions you listed are not available to choose from on the display preferences, but you might be able to get them work somehow.

My only problem with the ACD is the uneven backlighting (only noticeable when displaying very dark images full screen — distracting in some games), otherwise the colors are fantastic and it works well for gaming. However, the Dell is probably a very good purchase as well.

Anyway, these are the resolutions available in Display preferences, more may be available depending on the game. In WoW the next lowest widescreen res is 1600x1000 then 1344x840, 1280x800, etc.
