Apple 27" LED to Mac Pro 2008

Will I be able to connect this monitor to my Mac Pro 2008 utilizing the ATI 3870 graphic card with the appropriate adapter or do I need to get a new mini display port capable graphic card such as the ATI 4870?

As long as the graphics card has a displayport, then it will work with the new 27".

Apple does not have DVI to MINI-DP adapter (has a MINI-DP to Dual DVI, which works the other way around only). Also, you won't have audio. Audio for the new 27" ACD will go through the displayport connector (on the tech specs page only DP audio, but no USB audio is mentioned), so you'll need the latest generation MacBook or MacBook Pro, last-gen Mac Mini or alate 2009/early 2010 iMac for audio. 🙂

Just to clarify this last part(and sorry if I'm being numb): a 2008 Mac Pro with a new video card that has mini DP (ie, a 4870 or better), however, WILL support audio through the mini DP, correct?

Unfortunatelly, as far as I know, the ATI Radeon HD 4870 Graphics Upgrade Kit for Mac Pro does not support audio over mini DP, only video.

But let's hope the 27" ACD will support USB audio, even though it's not explicitly stated on the tech specs page. The USB audio feature was not mentioned on the earlier 24" ACD tech specs page (the 24" ACD had no other means for audio input only USB), and on the new 27" ACD page, it states that the display is compatible with any mini DP equipped Mac (and until recently no Mac was able to send audio through mini DP).

just get the 4870 card, that's what I did...
