Hey everybody,

I've been a fan of this site for a while. Its actually convinced to switch over to a MAC. I recently purchased both an Apple 30" Cinema Display and MacBook Pro fully loaded.

Until my MacBook Pro arrives I am using my new display with my Dell 9400 Laptop. The problem is it will not run at the proper resolution. If I set it to 2560x1600 it works but it doesn't show the full desktop. I have to drag my mouse up/down/left/right to access the screen. The only resolution that displays properly is 1280x800.

The video card is a ATI Mobility Raedon X1400 which shows it supports the full 2560x1600 resolution. I did a bunch of research and came across WinACD and PowerStrip. Neither of them worked.

Has anyone encountered and resolved this issue?

Thanks in advance!!!

-Joe

The Dell may not have a dual-link DVI connector, which is required to drive the 30" display at maximum resolution.

Hey, thanks for the response, but I'm pretty sure it does.

Below are the specs of the video card taken directly from the ATI Site.

# Flexible display support

* Dual integrated dual-link DVI transmitters

Yes but the card in your machine may not have dual link DVI.

The laptop in question has a single-link DVi output and as such will display the 30" as 1280x800 (exactly 1/4) of it's native resolution so as to avoid interpolation.
