Hi All,
I would like to share my project regarding creating an alternative power supply for my 30" Apple Cinema Display.
Like many of you proberly already know, you can use a 24Volt LED 10Ampere 200Watt power supply, which works great.
But many people have cut into the original wires of their 30" Cinema display's, which I personally dont like that much.
I wanted to create a solution which leaves the display wires intact, and not do distroy them and hooking them up directly to an external power supply.
So I have bought an LED power strip supply, with 240W 24Volt 10A power supply, and used a defective Apple 23" HD Cinema display power supply which I had laying arround.
I opened the 23" Original Apple power supply, using a dremmel, and used a half of this.
I needed this defected power supply, because of the special connector it's using.
(As far as I know, also the older Apple Mac Mini's are using the same connector.)
Anyway, I just hooked up the wires from the 23" original HD cinema display, like shown in the pictures, and has been working fine so far.
Do keep note, you must remove the small capacitor/transistor R69 on the 23" power supply board, since it seems this is checking for the correct display.
Withouth removing this chip, the 30" did not worked, only the 23" Cinema display's.
I Guess it is proberly some kind of power security chip.
Withouth removing this small chip, the 30" cinema display will give only some blinking lights..
I hope this info is usefull for somebody out there..
Happy modding !
