FYI....

With the news of today's silent upgrade to the MacBook and I recently purchased a new machine 3-weeks ago I contacted Apple about their policy.

They said to box it back up and return it to the Apple store for exchange for the new model.
30-Days is their return policy on exchange for new/upgrade model releases.

Guess where I'm heading after work? :D

They announced that the new MB is not available in store until tomorrow, so think you'll have to wait until then.

Now that's tempting. I just received mine less than two weeks ago. Do I need to contact apple first or can I just box it up and go to the store tomorrow? Thanks!

Edited: never mind. I guess I can just do basic return and buy a new one instead. Thanks!

Just returned mine for a full refund about 1-hour ago......
Ordering the new model tonight......the local Apple store said they had no idea when they will be getting them in, so I'd rather order it and know when I will get the new machine.

Yeah. Mine is a gift and person who bought it would hate it if I have to return and ask for the credit card again to buy the new one. I'll just wait a little for the stock at the store to do a swap.

I am in the same boat as you. I purchased on April 1st. I chatted with support today and was told there is no leeway on the 14 policy. I might call a few stores around me tomorrow and ask them.

[doublepost=1461114347][/doublepost]I bought my rMB 12" on 4/4, and was told Sunday there would be no problem extending my 14 days to the end of the month if the Macbook refreshed. Called today and have the swap scheduled as soon as the stock arrives. Had the impression Apple stores are normally willing to do that. They were eager to make it easy for me, which was very helpful.

Good to know and very glad I came through MR tonight and saw this. I'll give them a call tomorrow.

What number you called to have that scheduled? The physical store or? Don't want to carry around the MacBook in the box hoping it's in stock. Thanks!

Just returned mine for a full refund today.....24 days since purchase.
Just placed order for the new model 1-hour ago.

It's 30-day return period on updates/refreshes.
Both Apple support and the local Apple Store confirmed this.

I would of just done an exchange but the Apple Store didn't know when they would have them in stock.
So they just refunded my money and I ordered online.

[doublepost=1461196236][/doublepost]I called the same store where I purchased the 2015 rMB 17 days ago. They got back to me today and were holding the 2016 model for me, and I came in and swapped it. This happened on a corporate account, though, and I think they give corporate accts precedence on this kind of stuff (holding a swap for you) - but their willingness to do the swap in the 14 days to one month zone was clearly said to me before I let them know it was a corporate purchase.
