Well, since you seem to know all the answers... why did you ask?

I was hoping someone would have inside knowledge, or have tried the 30" on single-link, or could point to some definitive information (like tech manual from LG and not marketing stuff from Apple). I'm just speculating (albeit fairly informed).

What do you do that you need a 7680x2400 desktop?

Very cool

The only pics I could find large enough are aerial/satellite photos. They are kind of distracting as backgrounds so I ended up not using them. My digicam is only 6MP and won't over each monitor. I suppose I can use grain surgery to enlarge the pics....

The tentative answer to this thread title is NO. We tried using SwitchResX to drive the monitor with custom timing at 30Hz and 37Hz and the monitor wouldn't sync up. This is not a conclusive test as we tried only a couple of blanking interval timings.

wjchan, sounds bad for people with PCs who don't mind low refresh rates on a single link DVI. But would you mind a bit more testing? Since 5% overhead is the default assumption in DVI spec for LCD display, you might try that with 38.3Hz. Or for 30% overhead (default for CRTs and quite common in any case) 28.2Hz should work for single link DVI at 2560x1600.

I saw your post of a 30" running Windows on another thread - were you running with a Quadro FX? Have any setup problems/tips for others?

Thanks.

Yes, I was using a Quadro FX 3000 to drive it. As soon as I have a chance, I'll try to get the front porch, sync width, etc. info from the nVidia driver and reuse those at lower refresh.

Looks like every one in this thread needs a tall glass of "howstuffworks.com", and then to take a nap.

Nope, not yet tired and I pretty well know how most stuff works. What I don’t know is how to drive a 30” HD using single link DVI. I’ve had my 30" monitor for most of a week now and have tried three single link Nvidia cards, and using Powerstrip, refresh rates from 20 to 40 Hz, starting with the settings “guessed” at by Entech (see http://entechtaiwan.net/forums/viewtopic.php?p=5184). Could still have missed the right combination, but it’s more likely that Apple just didn’t go out of its way to be accommodating. Oh well, it was a long shot. I’ve decided to wait a month for the ATI FireGL X3 256 though; faster, cheaper and runs cooler that the FX3000. As far as I can tell, those are the only two AGP choices (I'd be glad to hear I'm wrong though). The monitor still looks great at 1280x800. Thanks everyone for the useful forum.

Quadro FX 2000/3000/4000 all should work
