Wow... that is one hell of an idea. Win-win for both Apple and consumers. Consumers are given the flexibility to easily personalize a wearable accessory and Apple wins because they're going to make a ton of money as people buy multiple straps for their iWatch.
It's not about the production (manugfacture) of the chips but the design.
Apple doesn't have its own fully-owned foundry, and it has designed some of its own components for years
