Plus, why can't Apple Maps take traffic into account, just like Waze, when it's time to leave your for your next scheduled Calendar event ?

Make it happen !

It does.

Select event, Edit
Select travel time
Travel Time: On
Starting location: (pick one, i usually just Current location), but then…
Choose “based on location”. It will auto adjust as you move around.
Your alerts then become “15min before travel time, at start of travel time, etcc.). Keep in mind, this “travel time” assumed you are already in, or approaching, you mode of travel! Not “ok I gotta grab the keys, my hat, a snack, water bottle, tie my shoes, and walk down three flights of stairs, across the parking lot, uphill, in the snow, both ways”.

Be sure you also have your Maps preferred route options chosen: “avoid tolls, avoid highways” (or not)

It also will auto-select a starting location based on a prior appt location that day (although this isn’t always exact and correct, but it sometimes helps).

Enjoy!

They should acquire Fantastical.
That likely wouldn't work out the way you hope - Fantastical is too fiddly for the average iPhone user (most of whom are adequately served by the existing app). Best case, if Apple bought it, is they include a handful of key features from it into the existing Calendar app, and leave Fantastical up as a separate app. This is fairly unlikely. Worst case is they buy it, use a few features or not, and discontinue the current app entirely - as I said, likely not what you want. Take a look at what happened with Dark Sky. Was one of the best weather apps, Apple bought it, used their (very good) back-end tech to make the WeatherKit SDK/API for developers, but removed the actual app (it inspired a few things in the default Weather app, perhaps, but it's not really anything like Dark Sky was).

They’ve already screwed it up. Half the time I’m not getting any notifications for all-day events. I had to install Google Calendar and sync it to my Apple calendar for redundancy… ridiculous.
Didn't know there were reminders for ALL DAY events.

Autocorrect still can't figure out my preferred words after years of using it. Mail keeps trying to add incorrect email addresses. Siri can't find music and artists on my devices. Why should I expect Apple to make my life easier with an AI calendar app?
Because they MUST!
Carl Icahn demands it.

Siri Suggested events get a reminder 2 hours AFTER the event and this can't be changed lol. It's already screwed up.

I've pretty much turned Siri off on everything. I'm running my stuff 2008 style. Works better for me.

It would be nice if calendar and reminders worked like motion.app or better FlowSavvy, but with all the benefits of being a native App. Integrate reminders, give them duration, urgency and other features, introduce time blocking, make tasks reschedule via AI. Introduce a smart day view as on Structured. Introduce task planning as in ChatGPT. There is so much you could do to make organizing life easier.

I’m just waiting for the day the AI is deeply entrenched in all of iOS that it randomly starts sending your private photos, emails and texts to random people in you’re contact list.

Your boss gets your embarrassing photos and a few messages you sent to friends about them

Your family gets some too

Your colleagues get your private finance related emails

Your friend gets a text that was supposed to go to another friend

😂😂😂

When it comes to a calendar, I've been using Informant Pro since about 2010...when I had an Android phone (my first iPhone was in 2012...absolutely hated that Android).

I've tried almost everything else- I just want a calendar that shows me an effing calendar like one that hangs on the wall that I can see enough of my appointments, events, etc...all color coded by category with a tag- without having to create a separate calendar for each category.

Informant seems to be the best one out there and it works between phone, iPad, and Mac without a problem. The only feature missing is a shared calendar.

I've lost count as to how many other calendar apps I've tried and just did not like.

while they're at it, they should buy pressreader and use it instead of news+

and it informs all of your friends that you're dead, because you booked a GP appointment

I have never fully understood, or seen documentation fully explain, the difference between enabling travel time and having an alert “at start of travel time” vs having an alert at “time to leave” which is available whether travel time is enabled or not.
