we are part of the "small" number

Our 2 Iphone g3 went away at the exact same time a couple of days after upgrade to 8.02 and 2.2 firmware. Both were working great so far. The triggering factor seem to have been an attempt by Garageband 09 to export to an Itunes ringtone. It immediately crashed iTunes. Both iPhones failed to sync at the next attempt; iTunes would crash (and crash and crash and crash and...). Tried everything, downgraded to previous firmware, reboot, uncheck all items to sync, etc. Nothing. Two days of panic. Looking again and again for similar issues, I found a suggestion from the apple newsgroup about the deauthorize/reauthorize process when sync issues with iPhone. Worked as magic! Feel much much better now. There is indeed now way for Apple to know how many users were hit since many like me did not spend hours on the phone line with Apple but tried to sort it themselves or were waiting for the issue to become public with a solution. Lesson is: wait for a week at least to install Itunes or iPhone firmware upgrades....

somewhat off-topic but still important ...

here is another iTunes gremlin - well, it's more of a gotcha actually:

iTunes gift cards can't be redeemed at the appstore!

apple supposedly had a fix in the works, but it is shocking that they would not clearly label the prepaid cards being vended in retail stores so that the restriction was obvious to customers /before/ they bought the gift cards ...

at a minimum, the online redemption procedure at the iTunes store should have a discrete stage that is dedicated to nothing else except an announcement - in very big letters - that the card may not be used on the appstore!

this (oversight?) is really shoddy merchandising, and it degrades the apple brand.

I was surprised to hear about this as usually when there is a problem I, or someone I know, gets it

I haven't heard of anyone dealing with crashes due to this update
