Apple today released MacBook Air (Late 2010) Software Update 2.0, a minor software update designed to address sleep issues on the company's new 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch MacBook Air models released last October.
This update resolves an issue with some MacBook Air (Late 2010) systems that prevents the system from sleeping.
The update weighs in at 342 KB and requires Mac OS X 10.6.5.

Apple has released several software updates related to graphics and sleep issues with the new MacBook Air, with the most recent update prior to today coming in early December to addresses problems with booting or waking to black screen or the system becoming unresponsive.

Anyone know under what conditions the MacBook Air wouldn't sleep? I never had any problems.

Software update doesn't see the update on my 11" MacBook Air. The iDVD update did show up though...
Curious if you are on 10.6.6 or 10.6.5? Possibly this might be a 10.6.5 issue only?

I didn't see the iDVD update because that appears to be 10.6.6 only, and I'm still on 10.6.5.

Good question. I'm on 10.6.6 and don't see the update either, but I also don't see the iLife update.

I have had the Air not go to sleep before and it was pretty hot and the battery was near death when I pulled it out of my bag. But that was easily within the first few weeks of having the Air and it hasn't happened since.

Yep the support article says this is 10.6.5 only so if you updated to Mac app store it's already been fixed.

I received the MBA software update even with 10.6.6. However, I didn't aware of any sleep issue since Christmas.

I'm not getting the update and I manually tried to install it and it said I don't fill the requirements for installing this. Very strange. I have 10.6.6 though.

I had the black screen when waking just 5 minutes ago. Had to put my MBA to sleep, wait a couple seconds and wake it again to get the backlight to come on. I'd really like this fixed. I've been on 10.6.6 since the day it was released.

What do you mean put it back to sleep? When I get the black screen I can't see anything on my screen and closing the MBA and opening it again a min or two later doesn't do anything at all. The only fix is a hard reset for me by holding the power button for like 2 minutes.

Perhaps one day they will decide to fix the bug with the Macbook Pro airport not waking after sleep when using the menu bar on an external display. So far it seems they have chosen to stick their head in the sand on this bug.

If I shine a bright light on the screen, I can see what is going on. Actually, I just know that pressing the power button and then the 'S' button puts a Mac to sleep. I then just let it sit for like 20 seconds, hit the space bar and it woke with the screen lit up.

I don't know that this method works every time. Sometimes I need to reboot the Mac. You do that buy hitting the power button and then the 'R' button.

Thanks, I learned something today. :)

I've always used the Cmd+Option+Eject shortcut for sleep, Control+Cmd+Eject for restart, and Control+Option+Cmd+Eject for shutdown.

This Worked for Me

My Air was not waking up nearly every time I opened it. All updates and fixes installed, and it still did it nearly every time. Apple Care calls in the dozens no help. Finally I decided to just to do a clean reinstall "Secretly an excuse to use the USB OS Drive" and it totally worked I haven't had the sleep problem one time since.

I've never had a problem they described with my MBA 13, but then again the very first thing I did was a clean install with the USB key and only installed the options I wanted.

I m having isssues with my 11.6 air waking from sleep, sometimes it doesn't wake up and need a reboot, and sometimes it's too slow to wake up...yet this update doesn't appear on the software update for me, nor will it install via the download saying something that it's not for my system...how strange it that?

Hmmm, so many times the system is awake but the back light isn't coming on? I'll have to try that with mine, I always figured my system was totally frozen since shutting the lid did nothing & hitting space bar didn't do anything. I'll see if really it still will react to being told to sleep again. I'm really wondering if this is still just a software bug or some kind or logic or hardware problem. My nearest apple store is 75 miles away & I figure this wouldn't be a same day swap/replacement...
