As other users have stated, the 30-second in-browser samples have been around for a long time now, and they obviously have nothing to do with Apple's acquisition of Lala, as:

1) Apple has had these same 30-second samples in the iTunes Store since its inception.
2) Lala's music is encoded in MP3, not AAC.
3) Apple didn't acquire Lala to use them; just to stop Google from acquiring them.

This. And let me add:

4. Lala allows for a full preview of the entire song once before going to 30 second previews.

Can someone at Macrumors sign up for Lala and use it before spouting off about it. The Lala mis-information on this site is getting old.

As soon as I buy the songs from that web page, I'll be happy. iTunes likes to steal all the bandwidth so my browser is like turtles stampeding through peanut butter.

WOW!!! This is HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Crappy Microsoft only demoed Clunky Windows and a junky tablet.

As always Apple leads the way!!!! Thanks Steve for improving the way we set Stars (very elegant) to music. This is a Delicious solution and I bet all the MS fanboys at CES are really jealous!!!

Hope Steve introduces a real game changer on the 27th. I'm thinking new icons for Snow Leopard!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, you really ARE a unashemed fanboy, aren't you (and I say that with all sincere comptempt in the world)? Some how, it required Apple to spend MILLIONS to buy a company that ALREADY EXISTED to do something they could have done long ago.

Also, where is Apple's tablet again????? Hmm, I didn't see it presented as a finished, available to purchase product. If it was the OTHER way around and MS was saying "it's coming, cool your jets", your response would be what again?

You really need to take a step back, dude, and look at yourself.

Worst 30 seconds ever

Have they figured out the technology to NOT consistently choose the WORST 30 second preview of any song?

iTunes is truly amazing at serving clips that give you absolutely no concept of what the song actually sounds like. it's uncanny. :(

and, they won't let the artist select the best 30 second clip. um, what?

It's so true. Even worse are the videos, where you may be treated to 30 seconds of the opening credits as your preview. What the???
