And whats with the women watching it because of the guys? Making money that way is ok?

I was kinda thinking the same thing. However, since most porn is intended for guys wanting to look at naked women, I think the poster meant that all porn (regardless of the gender of the person watching or in it) is bad.

I think allowing porn apps into the iTune App store damages Apples brand integrity. I think they should remove them all.

While I can understand your position, if Apple pulled every app where there was someone who disagreed with it, they have NO apps on their store. While some kinds of apps (like porn) are frowned upon by many people, I'm sure there's no app that everyone agrees with.

This makes me think of those religions where their followers believe music leads to sex. I'm a little surprised we haven't heard anything about banning iPods & iPhones because they can play music which would make people want to have sex.

Note: I am not random. You just can't keep up with my line of thinking. :p

I doubt this is a reaction to the public reaction. It was probably part of a carefully planned roll out. Apple's not one to say, "Now here is what we're going to do..." and then layout specific plans to the public in advance of their execution. This way, they appease all the complainers of sexually explicit content (not necessarily immorally explicit or violently explicit or unethically explicit, just sexually explicit. Being immoral, violent or unethical isn't an issue with Apple or the complainers at all, but any kind of sex whatsoever is.) They get all the sex apps back, and even more now with a whole top level section of the App Store dedicated to it, and they got a days worth of free press with everyone whining about it. Though I expected a press conference by the Reverend Al Sharpton or some such praising Apple for contributing to cause of ending all procreation completely and permanently. Check-mate, competition.

The app review process, after all this time, still seems as bumbling as ever. (The vast majority of reviews go fine, but some needless blunders happen too.)

However, Apple seems as though they have gotten much quicker about bumbling back on track when they screw up :) (Like the quick re-instatement of their own featured game they banned, and of the swimwear store. And now this.)

Now make this category opt-in, not opt-out, so myself, children, and those afraid of swimwear don’t have to see these oceans of shovelware.

And next time, figure the plan out firmly in advance and communicate it please  I’m not selling any apps yet (and when I do, all women will be wearing 1800s diving suits for modesty). But these unpredictable policy lurches make me nervous.

Wait... 10 year-olds AREN'T in charge of our society?!?

wow, finally. why grown-ups have to live by the limitations set for little kids is beyond me.

Thank you Apple! This is a great move! :D

You can't let crazy parents run the appstore. The little respect I lost for Apple is back! :apple:

I don't think it's a result of backlash. I bet this is what Apple was planning on doing all along. I give them more credit than that.

Even a Steve Jobs run company needs more time than this to react. A typical organization takes weeks or even months to react.

And if Apple does not want to sell or provide such content, then they should allow other AppStores to provide that content.

It's tragic that many see explicit images of women as "content." So after all it must be true that women are objects and don't have a soul.

I will gladly take that honor, because I absolutely HATE that filth being pandered to my kids.

Do I get a trophy or something?

Maybe you should be a better parent and not just allow your kids free run of the internet and the app store.

Why does the rest of society have to suffer and be censored because of your irrisponsibility?

+1

Seriously, set parental controls that are included on the device and move on.

It offends you that much, then why does your child have an iPhone/iPod touch?

But ...

Very True. I think it is much better than the censorship Apple had no problem committing.

I think it's the best of both worlds. People who want to look at boobies, can now find their app. People who want to "think of the children," can rest assured. Timmy will not be subjected women in bikinis or jiggles.

A place for everything and everything in its place.

And which will be the reaction of potential buyers of apple products when flooded, as they surf the web, whit pop-up ads like "horny#&€$! experience our porn content in the iPhone / iPod touch / iPad". Because the huge collection of ANYTHINGtube.com are going to claim their slice of the pie, Apple pie :)

Mi point is ... wont be counterproductive for Apple open the door of a "porn" cathegory? Won´t be use by the others to scorn Apple products? Perhaps the foreseeable flood will shade the products themselves? Used to demonize the iThings?

And, if Apple opens a adult category, but maintain some (or much) censorship, what´s going to be the name? adultsoftcore? adultjustmildtastes? adultnotsadomaso?

I think it is a hard problem to solve.

I think it's genius. Take away something from the masses and it make them want it all the more when it comes back, even more explicit than before.

My kids are never unsupervised, as I said in the thread yesterday I keep a screenshare open on all of their computers, I filter all of their emails and chats with my own eyeballs. They do not visit the appstore without my presence.

To deny that this smut was mixed in where it should not have been, and was impossible to avoid, is disingenuous.

What happened to Freedom of Speech?

In the United States, stores (and in this case Apple qualifies) have the right to sell what they want and don't want.

No one is saying that you can't create the porn etc, but you won't sell it on their store. At least perhaps not open market (if this rumor is true).

That is Apple's legal right. Just like it is Apple's legal right to refuse your warranty when you jailbreak your phone/touch/ipad to put one of said apps on it and something goes wrong. Or something else goes wrong and they see you broke it.

Freedom is not only about your own right, it's mostly about the rights of others

yeah like my right as a woman not to have a company promoting something that objectifies me as an object and not a person. My right as a parent to not have my 6 year old exposed to such things as well because someone changed the rating on their app to all audiences when clearly it is not. and so on.

Wow, calm down big brother...

As has been said many times before, parental controls are broken because the rating system is inconsistent. They have an iPod touch because it is a wonderful device and that the vast majority of games and apps are fine. It was a relatively small, but extremely visible, percentage of apps that should not be where they were.

Bad idea, Apple!

The publishers of some journals will not be happy if their products have to be searched in the category 'explicit'.

What seems acceptable was an App Store preference, that explicit material may be included in all searches.

Graefe

can we get a special app store category for all the religious apps, too? I hate having to wade through all the fascist cultist brainwash christian crap mixed in with all the useful or entertaining apps. god forbid some impressionable young mind get unsuspectingly warped by accidental exposure to that stuff.

This is good. Props to apple for causing the drama and calling crap crap, props to apple for allowing this crap to exist, and allowing people to download this crap if they so choose, in its own crappy category.

I see nothing to complain about anymore! Success!

App Store + Apple = Bad

You know what amazed me in the first place about the App Store, was that Apple is letting go of control over their iPhone... a lot of my friends are not getting an iPhone because they seem childish and not at teh same standard as other Apple Products... and i see their point... Apple need to remove **** like this from the App Store.... Safari is right there and most porn sites are iPhone capable ;) second, remove ****** pointless apps.... third... get rid of all Lite apps... bundle them into a single app that is unlockable like many Windows games are, so for example offer a time limit or reduced features - App Store, with good apps is cool, but all these ****** apps make me feel like Apple is not putting as much effort into things before they do them :(
