Would be great if Apple got into home security. Then could ditch Nest so I can remove the Google Home app.

I’d love a new AppleTV 4K with camera+mic to video chat. And if it comes to pass, they need to have a small light to let you know that they are “on”, for obvious reasons.
Yes! with a camera you can adjust , without moving the entire device, to point to a specific spot (say on your sofa). This I would order asap. Of course the '2nd version' would offer full room surveillance via your phone when not at home.....

So.. 5 years late? And HomePod isn't even making a scratch in this product category after years in the market.

Having a camera constantly staring into my house is where I draw the line, even with a privacy focused company like apple. Its creepy as hell.

Yes I know a camera is on my laptop but that's closed when not in use and my phone is in my pocket or facing the ceiling led on a table when not in use. This would be constantly able to see into your house. Too 1984 for me.
Sliding slot (as I purchased for my MBP and iPad long ago) is the simple solution.

First of all, a company like Apple would never spy on people and see what they are doing in their house. Second of all, what sort of illegal things are you doing that this would even be a concern?

I've never understood why people get so bent out of shape about people/companies spying on them. You are not interesting, and no one cares.

An Apple soundbar that incorporates Apple TV hardware and HomePod speakers in a soundbar form factor so you only have one device to connect to your TV. The soundbar would have a camera so that you could use your TV for FaceTime. It would also have the speakers and microphones for the audio part of the equation. And having Apple TV built into the soundbar solves the software part of the equation.

Yeah, so essentially everything that modern TV's don't do well - their speakers are trash as is their software, and most tv's don't have a camera either. I'd buy this immediately as I'm looking for a soundbar but all the decent sounding ones seem to be close to $1000. Maybe add the ability to record TikToks and play fitness games that track your movement.

I bought my wife a Facebook Portal to speak with her overseas family through WhatsApp. I was really sceptical but through the video tracking and the directional mic it feels easier and more natural than any phone or even computer-based solution ever did.

I really like the Apple ecosystem so personally I would love a solution that supports FaceTime. But what I would really like is to have a HomePod with a relatively open framework, so that in theory I could also use it for Google Duo or WhatsApp. I really hate the idea of buying an expensive piece of hardware that locks me into a specific service because my friends and relatives are scattered around many.

That’s a very Orwellian thing to say.
Privacy needs to be a given. To expect only criminals want privacy is the weird thing here.

I’ve seen enough episodes of Servant to know this was coming. You can see they are using Airplay and a HomePod, but I’m sure Apple would prefer a way to video chat directly on the TV.

There's nothing wrong with the Apple TV Remotes. If there is, maybe try restarting your TV then go from there. But if there is still problems, maybe try taking it into Apple.
When the Samsung remote that came with my TV is easier to use in the dark with the ATV than the default remote, there definitely is.
