The secret is always on the details, being most of them right unfer our nose.

I'm thinking that the porn site under Junior's nose in his bedroom is going to pop up under his mother's nose in the living room, and his little secret will be a big detail in n time.

I've been wanting a feature like this for awhile. Personally, I can't use this implementation though, because a) I don't use Safari because it's junk and b) I keep waaaay more than 9 tabs open. Still, it's a nice start.

Next up, copying and pasting across devices

There are so many better things they could sync than tabs. History, top sites, favorites, and this is a stretch but perhaps cookies? Maybe I'm missing something important here, but what are you guys doing that makes you think this feature is cool and useful?

YAY! Can't wait to try this out. I've always wanted something like this. I believe Android has something like this with the Chrome browser on Windows and the Android browser. Hopefully, I can just tell it to sync a tab or two and not my entire OS X Safari session into iOS Safari.

And Chrome on Mac too.

How would this work? iPad's Safari has a maximum number of 9 tabs, while Mac's Safari can have as many tabs as needed.

Likely the first 9 tabs opened on your browser. Or the 9 most active tabs.

This is a cool feature that I sometimes use with Firefox Home. It's nice because it syncs your bookmarks and history too.

I'd actually prefer if Safari just let me put favicons in the bookmark bar. Would that be so difficult?

Doesn't really make sense to share iCloud with your child. Your Apple ID maybe, but not iCloud.

This is a great feature! Really, the first ML feature which has piqued my interest. I had thinking about how to do this as an app (because I often browse mobile links and then want to transfer a session between the two), but without real access to Mobile Safari it was left to Apple to implement. I hope that Apple will open this as an API feature for devs to use.

I usually have around 20 tabs open on my mac, would hate to try and open that on my phone!

just don't do it, pretty useless comment :roll eyes:

there is an app that lets you "sync" your firefox tabs with the app.

Great feature and about time!

This has been way too long coming. I all but completely stopped using Safari on my Mac and PCs due to it not having Sync features.

With Google Chrome and Firefox both, one can sync bookmarks, history, passwords, and open tabs (with Firefox). It works fantastically and allows me to go to any computer (Mac or PC) and gain access to ALL my browsing needs.

So, although this article only talks about syncing tabs, I have to believe the syncing of bookmarks, history, and passwords will be the next step. And it certainly doesn't have to wait for Mountain Lion. This can simply be a Safari upgrade. When it happens, I'll start using Safari more regularly.

why would i need to have the same tabs open on all my devices at the same time? dont see the point. however i'm tabs OCD anyway, i never have more than 2 open at a time

How it will probably work

For all of you wondering how your 20 tabs from your mac will open in on your iPhone, the answer is simple: they won't. They will not have the tabs automatically open in iOS like commenters here think.

Instead a list of the tabs will sync and will be available for you to open individually as you wish. It will probably be almost identical to the bookmarks menu is iOS. In fact it very well might be a folder within the bookmarks menu.

That would be a simple solution that gives you all the power of accessing the remote tabs while dealing with the technical limitations of available tabs on iOS. Which is exactly why Apple will sync the information but leave the act of opening the tabs to the user.

Solution to the wrong problem!

I'm sure there are users who will appreciate this feature, but it doesn't help me.

The sync I want is the last-visit-date. That way when I read MacRumors in the morning before going to work, it says it's "read" (no star) on my laptop at work.

That would be true if junior was signed into iCloud using the same credentials as mom.

Which isn't uncommon, such as when Junior's in his bedroom on his Macbook and his mom is in the living room on his iPad checking the latest news online... uh-oh...

Now, what I'm curious to know how it's going to handle is private browsing. If Junior's browsing privately, the tabs shouldn't sync and then there's no problem. Hopefully they'll get that right.

What's mom doing using juniors iPad ?

Doesn't she have her own computer/device ?

In such a case junior could buy mom a Fire for a present hehe

;)

And why would we need mountain lion to do this. Glad its coming but really this is one of those big deal I don't see why its specific to the next OS X.

Wish it would sync username & passwords also, stupid have to manage that muanlly...

What I find hilarious is they had it for years, removed it, and now Microsoft is adding that exact feature in Windows 8.

Do not forget Chrome has had it for a very long time as well which I found was really handy when I was setting up my linux box as everything was just done for me as soon as I logged in. All my add ons, bookmarks and so on. It really helps in keeping 3 OS and 2 computers synced up. As an added bonus Honeycomb currently has bookmarks and passwords sync between it and your Google account so this was nice in keeping my galaxy tab all lined up.

The only thing that I am tired of doing is putting my Password every time I want an App. Some people who had no control of their kids have brought Apple to making us put our Password again and again.

Pathetic.

Mostly when she is featured on that site.:D

This really isn't uncommon; mom gets junior an iPad for Christmas without knowing what the hell it is, then she realizes how handy it is and starts using it occasionally - just enough to use junior's without warranting the need for her own.

I like Googles settings on how that is handles devices tied ones account and how things like the market handles things.

That is for paid apps I can require a pin for it to be used. The pin is not the same as my password. It a 4 digit code. This include being able to content filter stuff. Both are great for kids because it would require them asking the parents if they want to buy something and it lets you filter result so more mature things do not pop up in possible results. It is also all option on what to use. On my phone currently there is no requirement at all to enter a pin or a password to purchase something. Free stuff never requires a password.

Filtering is not the same as banning as smart kids do know how to get around it but at the same time it keeps more mature items from popping up if they are searching for an innocent game. Also prevents the impulse buying by kids and that getting charged to parents. For example I could put my account on the phone as one of the possible accounts and be able to pop over to it to buy something and then have it put on the phone for marketplace but not have it put my email or anything else on the phone.

At the same time I can log into my Google account and I can also revoke access from any device connect which would require one logging in again from said device.

These are both things Apple needs to vastly improve on.
