All these new cities, still no FlyOver for Los Angeles.
Even worse, this "American" company cannot find the time to do a flyover of the nation's capitol, Washington, DC.

What is going on Tim? Is this some sort of political statement? Please explain. I just don't get it.

Fly Overs aren't possible in no fly zones.

Apple can't even get up to date satellite imagery, why are they wasting time with this? Case in point: we have a local Towne Center with an Apple Store that has been open for over three years, and on Apple maps it still is a construction zone. There are entire buildings in Arlington VA that have gone up and Apple maps shows a grassy lot.

I have never seen this half-assed nonsense in Google Maps.

As others have mentioned LA has flyover. In fact, AFAIK, it had it from the moment Apple Maps launched.
But cities without flyover don't miss a whole lot at the moment. Up until now it has largely been a gimmick. Nice for 3d tours but that's mostly it. Toronto has flyover and I hardly ever use it because it's irrelevant for everyday map use. Google street view on the other hand can be of practical value as it gives street level details. On the downside, the UI for Google street view is absolutely awful (unlike flyover which has excellent UI). Thankfully, Apple seems to be moving to incorporate direct street view analogue into flyover. At least, that's what I assume all those Apple mapping vans are about. Might take a couple of more years before we see it though.

Totally useless feature. Apple should instead focus on useful features, such as live updates with alternate routes and street view if they really want to compete with Google. Accuracy is also still lacking behind.

Because Google wouldn't let Apple have access to advanced mapping features unless they agreed to some disagreeable terms.

I don't get why people are questioning why Apple is working on maps. Google doesn't have a monopoly on maps just because they got started several years earlier. They weren't even the first. Why did Google start doing maps when MapQuest, DeLorme (and probably others) had already started?
Probably could have used Flyover to get a bird's eye view of the context in AD's comment.:D Twas a joke.

Yes, my mistake. What I meant was there is no FlyOver tour. Fresno, Bakersfield, and quite a few other cities in California have them, but not LA.

I'm looking at a FlyOver Tour for Los Angeles right now.

Really? I don't see an option for a FlyOver Tour of LA on my iPad.

I don't get why Apple keeps trying this Maps thing when Google already has a maps application. Come to think of it, Google has its own mobile OS, so why bother with iOS? They have their own CEO, too, so what's the point of having Tim Cook around?

Apple should just become Google instead of pursuing things as crazy as marginal improvement at a steady pace. :p
It's like they're trying to reinvent the Alphabet.

It's strange how scattered this is. Like, one of my nearest cities doesn't have it, but we do up on our rural mountainy village.

I guess we were on the landing path for the FlyOver planes.
Interesting. Can you name that village?

Nope! But we're right on the boundary. Flying up the road and it turns flat. I can only imagine they decide to do a city and include the whole county even if there's not much there.

Ok :) I'm curious now to see some real old villages in Flyover...

Just checked, and a search for "Los Angeles" shows a popup offering a FlyOver tour on both my iPhone and Mac.

It's going to depend on where you live, so while it's possible Google has more up-to-date imagery on average, it's absolutely not universal.

I just compared where I live (town in rural northern CA) in Google Maps and Apple Maps; the Google satellite imagery is definitely higher resolution, but using recent construction as a guide, it's also 6 months to a year older. The Apple Maps photos are definitely taken about 6 months ago, give or take a bit, while the Google photos are somewhere between a year and two years old.

Apple must of heard of a wonderful city called Cardiff in Wales. It's a sporting treasure and all round amazing place! Please Apple, quicker with the fly-overs! Cardiff needs, no, Cardiff DESERVES it!
