I still maintain that this feature looks great for the first 30 seconds you play with and then is completely useless the rest of the time you own an iPhone.
I agree that at the moment Flyover is largely a gimmick. However, I think Apple has plans to make it a lot more useful. I believe all those Apple vans driving around are for adding Street View level details to Flyover. I find Street View useful (unlike flyover) but the UI is absolutely horrendous. If Apple adds similar functionality to Flyover without sacrificing seamless zooming and scrolling it will be way better than Street View because it will have much better UI. Of course they will remain years behind Street View in terms of mapping data but at least some bigger cities might get actually useful Flyover.

A "joke" that works much better than Gmaps in my area (Northern Italy), with much better, recent satellite imagery (Google images are ridicolously old, about 10 yrs).

EDIT: added example. Apple Maps: Calatrava bridge up and running, Gmaps, bridge under construction (not even raised yet). Years and years. And this is a very popolous, developed part of Italy.

It's the opposite where I live in a suburb of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Apple satellite imagery shows my condominium under construction (which means pre-2009!) whilst Google Maps has imagery from 2014. And this is a populous suburb with 70,000 people.

For every example of outdated things in Google Maps, you can find 2x as much as in Apple Maps.

Really? Source of your data?

With all respect, I need maps to be trustworthy in my area, not in Kuala Lampur.
