To all you people complaining this has got nothing to do with money. It's to even out prices internationally with those in the United States. Some places the prices have gone up and in other place they have gone down.

How? Current exchange rates are showing as £0.615 for US $0.99. AFAIK, Uk price has VAT included so 69p sounds about right to me.

True for hardware, but as i understood it sales from iTunes are from luxembourg and carry no VAT, and sales in the US below $1 dont attract sales tax. Not sure though.

So we still pay 1.20$ for an app worth 0.99$

Apple wants to make it fair for everyone. That means every country should pay the same price (compared to USD). There is tax by the way. $0.99 USD -> 0.920587688 Australian dollars, +10% GST = 1.01264646. $0.99? Fair.

Also, the developers get 70% off the purchases.

Yep, likewise $0.99 -> £0.61

It was £0.59, it's now £0.69. I know it's only pence, but if this is a shift in ratio with all their pricing it's significant at 1/6 increase.

£0.59 is closer to £0.615 than £0.69 in my mind.

£0.615*1.20 (20% VAT) = £0.738

£0.69 is closer to £0.738 than £0.59.

The fact that iTunes Europe is based in Luxembourg is irrelevant I'm afraid. The general rule for VAT on consumer purchases of goods and services is that they are taxed in the country in which they are bought. The UK app store prices include UK VAT.

So, given that 61.5p with VAT is approx. 74p, 69p isn't bad at all.

£0.6147 + VAT @ 20% = £0.73 or 73p. An actual price of 69p seems pretty fair to me.

Apple UK hardware pricing on the other hand....

Extra 10p! WOOOT!? I'm actually slightly irritated by that. I will certainly be buying less apps I'm afraid. 59p was a comfortable price.

and 69p isn't a comfortable price? As plenty of others have said, the dollar price at current exchange rates + VAT is actually more than 69p, so we're still getting them cheaper than our cousins across the pond

I have a US and Japanese account. I won't bother purchasing using the UK account again. Zero benefit.
