I can't see how Paul Deneve would be involved in this project from a technical/engineering standpoint as that's not his background. Maybe his role will be more around brand/markings/sales?

They need a guy with high end fashion experience and sense. My take is the iWatch will cost around $250 or more for 4-8 GB and move on up from their. Someone is going to have to be able to position this in the marketplace without it looking stupid on people's wrists like those big ass expensive watches that were so popular about 5 to 10 years ago.

Sure he has the experience of being the CEO of a major fashion company but he's not a designer and when he worked at Apple he was in sales. That's why I see his role more as how to market and sell wearable tech. Horacio Dediu speculates that maybe he'll have oversight for branding at Apple. Apple's brand certainly has been tarnished over the past year (fair or unfair). They might need some new blood to fix this (not sure I have a ton of confidence in Phil Schiller).

I would be shocked to see it less than $499. Designer watches that just tell time can be $200 or more. Problem is it cant just be an iphone extension. It needs to replace the iphone. Flexable snap bracelet that allows you to facetime, check and respond to email and texts, and take off your wrist to use as a phone. The problem they have is battery life and thickness, everything else can be done today

Haven't they already bought the rights to that Swiss Railroad clock??
What more do you need for a watch!

I think their rights go as far as using the image in one of their apps (is that even still the case in iOS 7?) I don't think they have the rights to physically mass produce the clock. ;-)

Why would you "wait" to begin with? If you think of buying an other type of "smart" watch then by all means do so, nobody is stopping you. I'm known for being able to criticize Apple, I'm no Apple fanboy all tough I do work with Apple equipment.

But in this context there is nothing that can be blamed towards Apple for the very simple reason that no one, including myself, can predict what the i-watch will be like. And reading that Apple is 'aggressively' hiring people to solve issues that they themselves are not able to fix sounds more promising to me to be honest. It means that Apple will most probably not going to release a Pebble kind of watch. And trust me, the Pebble watch is besides ugly pretty useless as well. If I understand the message of Apple's approach correctly then Apple is just not going to release a "good" looking gadget which doesn't do much interesting things.

It's better for Apple to come up with "something" in late 2014 then with "something" soonish which will be criticized and ridiculed among critics just because it's a Pebble copy and paste watch...

I love apple products too that's why i'm here but i expected for early 2014 launch not late. by looking on their patents other smart watches that we can buy today won't even get close.

This is Apple. They elevated the tablet, mp3, and smartphone industry. They could do it too for the watch!

Unfortunately that was when Steve was a live and pushing the envelop like no one ever. After him, everything is about resizing. And the so called innovations are taking ages!

Apple has change, they are not leading anymore, they are just catching their own wave. But that is my opinion.

You haven't thought it through yet. There is absolutely no new user experience that a smartWatch provides that a phone doesn't

Their user experience is absolutely the same

1) You use the same motion to use them. Bringing your arm from its resting position to your stomach.
That same motion you use to bring your phone from your pocket.

2) You both have to raise your arm to your mouth to talk to it. So no new user experience there.

3) You use the same touch functions on it. So no new user experience there aswell.

4) You need an earphone to listen to any sort of music or sound. no new user experience there also.

It even hinders privacy because everyone can see what you doing so you probably can't read text on it. with a phone you can actually hold it in an angle that blocked others from seeing what you doing.

The user experience is the same. nothing new you are bringing to users.
Its essentially a phone strapped to your hand.

While Glass provides an endless amount of new user experience

OMG when did you see the iWatch in action and it's user experience? That's amazing!!! I cannot believe you work for Apple and are allowed to post here considering their NDA.

I'm glad you came here and told us everything about it since you've seen it actually in person and actually being used in an everyday environment and are working on the project.

It's mind-boggling that this company has decided on a watch as its next avenue for revenue growth. What a dumb idea.

Maybe its not a wristwatch at all...

What if iWatch is not a wristwatch at all but the action of watching something? If Steve Jobs 'cracked TV" then maybe iWatch is the act of watching something that is not your run-of-the-mill TV with rabbit ears or cable attached. We watch videos, vines, movies, and so much other content that is not traditional TV at all. Maybe iWatch is a more encompassing term than iTV or AppleTV for an upcoming content delivery system called iWatch. iTunes and iRadio is for music and things we listen to while iWatch can be for things we watch. Maybe even move videos, TV shows and movies out of iTunes and into iWatch. Could be a set top box or AppleTV-like box, or software built into future TV sets or iTunes-like app for PCs and macs. Of course, one could always watch something on their iWatch wristwatch. There might be much more income potential from a series of products and licensing agreements in an iWatch delivery system than there is in wristwatches. We won't know until it is announced...

You might want to step away from the keyboard, go outside and get some exercise because clearly you don't get enough. Anyone who has a Nike FuelBand or Garmin Forerunner knows part of what the iWatch will do. It will have biosensors to track you heart rate, calories burned and other things. It will have GPS to track distance and can sync to a iPhone or iPad to track workouts and other data. There are many things a small device strapped to a wrist can do that a phone cannot. The iWatch won't be a huge seller like the iPhone and iPad but for a lot of people it will be a very useful gadget.

In regards to Google Glass, that sure seems like a product that has Segway written all over it. Lots of prerelease buzz but I'd be stunned if doesn't hit the market with a loud thud.

Bogus unfounded report.

And for those who think iwatch is a lame idea... Wait and see... It will be amazing and a new paradigm on mobile computing !

Sadly, Apple could do exactly this and there are some people who would call it revolutionary and eat it up.

I'm interested in seeing what Apple does, but I'm not looking forward to having to charge my watch each day.

Yeah a watch strap for the 6th fen iPod nano like the one pictured has been out for 3 years. I bought the same for my wife 2 years ago. So the pic in the first posits not a mock up. It already exists!

I hope the iWatch is something really amazing with some "wow" technology. Stuff that really surprises you... Like when we saw the multi-touch on the iPhone.

Does anyone else not care at all about an "iWatch?"

Of course there are, but don't forget there are also billions of people who don't care for the iPhone, the iPod, the Mac or anything else Apple makes, but that doesn't make any of those products redundant in the slightest.

Guess I'll be using my Pebble till then! I love this tech. It's saved me from a few missed calls, great iPhone music remote if you use non-Apple headphones, and it's just nice to see text messages and emails pop up on the display. If Apple do this well and connect it flawlessly with iOS - they've got a sale.

Been saying this since the iWatch rumour first surfaced long ago. If they do this right, the hype, the launch and sales will be as big as the iPhone was in 07.

How are they going to square big screen = big honking oversized watch?
I thinking of it as a traditional wrist watch barking up wrong tree ?
