This desktop reminds me of the classic app, Holiday Lights for MacOS!

Imagine paying $2,249 for a computer. That’s used car territory prices.
I get where you’re coming from, and personally, I have never paid quite that much for a computer. I can’t see myself doing that any time soon, either.

But compared to what some people pay for their gaming PCs, that’s not even horribly expensive.

To each their own, of course.
When I bought my close-to-$2000 Intel MBP I was honestly nervous about spending that much money on a computer, though.

Someone is desperate...I agree with above, "consumers" are Apples most important customers. Cater for these. The Apple nerds in business have already the M1/Pro/Max MBP on the desk.

Well I for one still don't know what pain switching to an arm mac will bring for my current work. I didn't do the research yet and I'm not in a rush either.

Also, as other people are saying, Apple dangled the M2 in front of our noses but it's not available in a format appropriate for work yet. A bit of an Osborne effect.

Funny enough, I did get an x86 box this year. Needed it for some Linux stuff I was working on and I knew the time of x86 linux in a VM on Apple is over. Incidentally, if no more VMs (and please don't explain to me that i can run arm linux on a Mx mac, that doesn't help for my use cases) I won't need a machine as powerful as before when I do make the switch to arm, so Apple will make less money from me.

The bulk of 5 for 8% off has already been offered since October, from Apple Business Team Hong Kong. When I got notified from the rep I was sure this were a sign of M2 Pro update, since the offer is supposed to be ending some time December.

It's not on top. Business discount is 6%.
And they still haven't offered 6% across anything past 2021. In my area the latest Macs with that rate are 2020 M1 Macs. 2021 14" 16", Mac Studio, Display etc all are at retail price.

I'm aware of third party solutions but ultimately it's a bodge, this functionality should work out of the box.

I know multiple people who are put off the Mac by no intuitive window snapping given they use it all the time. And when you say well you can pay for an app that sits on top of the OS it's game over. Even Chrome OS has window snapping built in!

Implement some vaguely intuitive window snapping in macOS and watch sales go through the roof

Done!

It's a wash. macOS has a much more intuitive interface for multiple desktops. But I agree. Window snapping should be baked into the operating system. Who knows maybe Apple will Sherlock the Magnet app at some point.

Anyway I'm not sure Apple will have much success with this promotion. Most of the small businesses looking to buy Macs were wiped out by the Covid pandemic.

And Mac Minis and iMac and…

If you need a mini right now, you are looking at buying an almost 3 year old machine or way overspending on a Studio. That means you are trying to scrape time out if your current machine instead of upgrading.
Yup, I made a total mess of my own device update — didn't love the MBPs that came out last year, and decided to wait for the Air update, but when that came out and I watch a couple of videos, I came to the conclusion that I need something just a bit more powerful and decided to wait for them to update the Pros. Didn't expect to still be waiting... :(

I must admit that proper window snapping is the main thing I miss from Windows.

You haven't found and used one of the 15,000 window management apps that exist? I have used Magnet and BetterSnapTool--which allows me to set hotspots and custom keystrokes. So I hit CMD+CTRL+Z and the window snaps to 85% (a size I set up within the program).

So it ends up being better than windows managment on MS Windows. Anyway, I hope that helps you in your time of need.

I think Apple has fumbled the M2 transition a bit which is hurting their uptake. Unless you urgently needed a computer, the second they released the M2 MBA, there was zero reason to buy any of their other machines. Everyone knows that M2 Pro/Max/Ultra machines are just around the corner and I think most consumers are going to wait on the next generation, regardless of how good the M1 machines are.

They could have hedged this a little bit by releasing M2 iMacs and Minis, but my guess is that they are significantly supply constrained and decided that having 1 model that they can deliver on time is better than 3 models where they have long waits.

I hope that they are aggressive with new models in the first quarter (27" imac pleaseeee). I'm totally ready for an Apple Silicon machine, but it needs to be the right one.

As a note for anyone complaining about why consumers don't get discounts like businesses besides the obvious part there, apple requires businesses to spend thousands and thousands of dollars before they even become eligible for the business discount program. So apple isn't just handing them out.

Also as far as consumers go, there is an education discount and veteran discount that you could be eligible for.

They put all their eggs in the laptop market and completely blew off desktops, no 27" imac unless you spend 5 grand and have a bunch of cables on your desk. Anybody know of any manager that will spend 5 grand on a desktop? Even if I wanted a mini it would be underpowered with no Apple monitor to connect to unless I want to spend 2 grand. Apple seemed to be saying " pay up or bug off " earlier this year and now is offering the same discount that has been in effect forever and making it sound new to goose sales...pathetic.

A business would be a fool to get tied in with Apple MacOS products. Apple could care less about businesses. Kids playing with toys, absolutely.
Depending upon the business. Graphics designer and photograpers would be a fool to ignore MacOS products since the Mac version typically performs better than their PC counterpart.

For typical office work, yarp. Hard pass on MacOS since Office, especially Excel, is the Lite version of the Windows counterpart.😑 IMO, MS does this on purpose to keep Windows relevant.😠 Also Apple is crap for backwards compatibility and crippled in a mixed network environment. I know of a lot of business still using old version of Window Server 2008 and Windows 7. My company only upgraded from WinServe 2003 last year because some new software we needed required WinServe 2008 or newer.
