.....Greed is going to destroy our current system.....
We're well on the way with that one..... we all want to be rich overnight, but we don't want work for it anymore. You see it everywhere you care to look, the big multinationals that have squeezed out all the mom and pop operations, shareholder expectations or demands really, sports and entertainment admission prices, it's all about money these days. To a degree, we're all guilty but it's sad really.

Being away a lot, I used to regularly enjoy a tasty home cooked meal in one of those small family operated diners that you could find everywhere, but they all seem to have become pretty much extinct..... run out of business and replaced by the big chains set up for maximum profits, that are little more than food factories churning out mostly greasy and/or unwholesome menu items, so now it's mostly eating at home with the occasional meal in a fancy restaurant.

Still have them in my neck of the woods ... 'er beach. They are so good!

Now we have the "take over" chains dying out slowly but surely.

I'm optimistic that we are nearing a turning point. People need jobs and outlets for their creative energies. Maximum efficiency that guts jobs and quality is dehumanizing and ultimately will be rejected. It's just not necessary for masses of people to be serfs with a few layers of greedy, heartless oligarchs above them. This is America and the American dream will come roaring back.

The Watch is only going to get more sophisticated with more sensors. I don't want them mining that data and saying, you at more junk food than your average citizen last year and also drove over the speed limit, so we are raising your premiums by 40%. Although I understand the business reasoning, this is way too much of a breach of privacy for my liking.
Understood but it's not a breach for those that agree to it. If you visit your doctor and are honest with them about your diet and exercise, I'm not sure how different this would be than that.

Unless they (Aetna) looking at building a profile of you and your "health" habits.
This would allow them to fine tune or better tailor plans and forecast payouts.
That data would be salable even if made anonymous.
I hope so. That is what the Apple Watch and Health app were designed for.

Your doctor does not sell this information. I would fully expect Aetna and others to market your info.

I hope so. That is what the Apple Watch and Health app were designed for.

For now this info is to help me, not my insurance provider. Before I let my information in hands like this there are several issues that need to be "fixed".
  • Who can have access.
  • How secure is this info
  • Need extremely dependent apps
    • Current apps are okay at best
  • Validated measuring ability
  • etc...
Not sure I like this idea at this point. The more I look at this the more concerned I become.

Privacy is a big issue with Apple.

I doubt Apple would do an about face and allow third party companies (Aetna in this case) access to something as personal as your specific health records.

Your identification would surely be encrypted.
Your health insurance company already has access to your health records.
They won't provide coverage or approve claims if they couldn't see them.

Apple on the other hand, has no reason to keep or view health data collected by their watch.
I never signed a HIPPA release when I purchased my Apple Watch. The data is collected locally and I decide how it is shared.

It's cute that you think they have your back and wouldn't sell you out for

A statement that is exuberantly ignorant and you failed to provide any examples backing your post as it is, only to post some futuristic theory of what Apple might do? Furthermore, has Apple ever placed ANY users information at risk or compromise their personal data before? Your post is a prime example of someone who doesn't understand privacy in the slightest and a Company that values it. Clearly.

Doctors are not health insurance and health insurance is not the doctor.

I know but the information they both initially collect are the same or similar enough. Thus the comparison.

Fair enough. Like when you tell the doctor you only have 2 drinks per week but in reality you know its 10? ;)
