Apple Aiming to Eliminate All 3rd Party Passwords Apps

I don't see passwords _or_ password apps ever totally going away. But we may very well see Password managers doubling down on other features - being a lockbox for all sorts of personal information, family support for sharing credentials and establishing "legacy" (post-mortem) access, team/enterprise support (such as having audited workflows for temporary system access), and so on.

We have seen more cases where passwords are being encouraged only account recovery, and that they are issued by the site rather than given by the user ('here's your recovery key, record it somewhere safe, scary language about no account access if you lose this').

But if the phone always used the face/touch and never needed the passcode, this wouldn't happen. None of your friends would ever erase their phone. Unless they somehow lose their face?

Passcode is literally the door key of your device. Touch ID or Face ID is there to make your daily life easier. Are you willing to give your door key to a stranger?
They can guess my doorkey. They can't guess my face. And I wouldn't give my face to a stranger. Why is making your device less secure better?

What if a criminal forces you to use your face to unlock your device? Or worse, FBI demands you to unlock your device using biometric methods? Also, the reason Face ID or Touch ID is more secure has something to do that most people uses 6-digit passcode. What if they use alphanumerical passcode? Guessing that would be near impossible without external info or hint. I’d rather criminals wasting time guessing my passcode than forcing me to look at my device to Face ID unlock it.

If these are actual concerns in your life, you might need a different circle of friends. :)

The point is, passcode is still more secure than Face ID or Touch ID, or else why apple falls back to passcode every time you restart your device or you fail Face ID or Touch ID a couple times?
