I wish this was more of a hot corner - launch a specified app I choose in slide over - rather than only being notes. Let slide over have the same size options as standard apps (1/3, 1/2,2/3) and that would be perfect.

Edit: I really dislike random 1-off UI systems that only apple gets to use when a general system would be just as good.
I agree – slide over apps should have all of the same size options. Limiting to 1/3 makes them feel much too cramped with tons of unused screen real estate.

How would you use the Keyboard with the bottom app?
I can imagine a kind of tiling system where you see the bottom app pushed up over the top app but that has its own UX issues.
Well like you said, if one window is active it just pushes the screen up over the keyboard. iOS already does this on a smaller scale within apps to push the text you're writing above the keyboard.

It also does this with picture-in-picture. If you're watching something and start typing something somewhere, it pushes the video above the keyboard.

That could be an acceptable trade off I suppose, it’s really not split view at that point though, if you can only view one app when the keyboard is up why not just have both open fullscreen in portrait and swipe between them?
I can see a use case where the keyboard is used very very occasionally in two apps in vertical split screen but otherwise it seems clunky.

Split mode works well for *me*... I looked at my use case and decided that I mostly consume on the iPad, no creation sans the occasional email and SMS. Since I travel a fair bit, I ditched iPad Pro and with a LTE Mini. Very happy with that decision

Even creation works well once you get used to it.

Here is a little example of something I don’t think most people know you can do.
Safari on left and notes on right in split view in landscape.
Swipe up to get the dock
Tap all apps to open app drawer (App Library)
Long press on pages and tap show all windows
Drag one do the windows to replace notes

The only thing missing is that you can’t open a new window just by dragging the new window button out

Don’t know why everyone wants a tablet to be a Mac so much. Steve Jobs said himself during the iPads introduction that the iPad is a “third category device between a laptop and a smartphone”.

Just buy a Mac if you want a Mac, otherwise you’ll never be satisfied because you’ll just want them to add something else to make it like a Mac, then another thing, then another… etc. You are forever chasing after something to be something that it was never intended to be.
So what? After fricking 10 years, we are still tied to Steve Jobs already outdated philosophy and never move forward just because “wow he was so visionary” 10 years ago? If so, why iPadOS and iOS has changed so much after his death? Might as well keep skeuomorphism forever cause Jobs liked it?

Also, how about bringing the macOS to the iPad. Let's transform it to have that macOS experience. That will be a game changer!

Imagine, An iconic glowing Apple logo on iPads.

Honestly, What would be really cool is a dual boot option. Heck would be cool to be able to boot up windows on it as well. Is the ipad pro at least powerful enough to run dual boot iPad OS/Mac Os? Asking for windows capabilities is probably asking for too much. Can't imagine this ever happening but it would be super dope IMO.

That’s not gonna make the iPad a pro device most people don’t need more than than 2 apps open

If you could open the same app but mulitple separate sessions of said app I'm pretty interested. For very specific gaming purposes.

I know some android phones can do at least two.

This is hard to do even on macOS, not sure this is a worthwhile use case, lots of things to think about first.

All of Apple's iPad cases would cover the logo, and that wouldn't work with the 13" MiniLED iPad because it doesn't have a single constant backlight. Besides, it worked on the MacBooks because the screen orientation didn't change, but a glowing portrait Apple would look silly in landscape and vice versa.

I'd prefer one robust OS that takes the best of iPad OS and MacOS that can run on various form factors, from tablets to laptops to multiple monitor desktop setups. This would also allow Apple hardware designers to come up with some new and interesting hardware designs, though probably not new for Windows users. The notion that Macs should never have touchscreens is silly and I feel like that mentality has held Apple back half a decade.

GoodNotes and Notability for Mac are crippled compared to iPad versions. OneNote for iPad, even with keyboard and mouse, is crippled compared to Mac version. Using these applications between iPad and Mac is not a seamless experience due to features missing on one platform or the other. If having a common OS will force developers to make their applications consistent across platforms, then it is worth considering.

Dual boot would make both sides happy, without compromising on anything.

Yup.. I have multiple shortcuts setup to open two apps in windows. One is iMessage 1/3 and News 2/3... (I use that one everyday at lunch ;)

How would it be a terrible idea?

Apple can offer it as an optional, at least. Imagine, When you can just take your iPad and perform all the tasks as you would on a Mac (especially if you are traveling) You don't really have to carry your Macbook around. It all comes down to the functionality, making it seamless, the eco-system.
And people will think...hmm don't need to buy a macbook now.

Apple doesn't want that idea in your head. They want you to own a mac, an ipad and an iphone.

Since iPadOS is designed for touch input, will it work with external touch monitors such as these:

And it will take years and years to get it right. Looking forward to barrage of updates.

until there is a file system like on macOS these changes dont do much.

iPad always needed help in multitasking VS Android tablets.

This is nothing new.
