I can say this without (much) bias but Apple's marketing department makes some of the best and most effective advertisements of any company. They have their misses (ahem, Genius ads that ran during the Olympics) but these are well-done and effective ads. Notice that there are no disclaimers about "Screen images are simulated" (I see those on pretty much every other ad for smartphones or tablets or computers).

The ads are effective because they show real use without anything distracting from the product. All three of these iPad Mini ads are classy.

Ding ding...was going to say the same thing.

They would have crushed it with putting retina on this...everyone knows it's coming...ridiculous they left it off.

Really?....... with the current screen technology, they couldn't put a retina display into the iPad Mini without making it thicker, heavier, having shorter battery life, and more expensive. That was a tradeoff Apple was unwilling to make.

Two of a kind

Two of a kind only by name. Classy but boring ads, with 26 years and counting it feels to me that Apple is targeting 'older' people. Anyhow, I don't like the ads. It's a good thing the product sells itself, I'm happy with my 4th gen iPad.

I'm 19, I enjoyed them.

I find it all the more ironic when it emphasizes text and photos, yet you know the Mini doesn't use a retina screen...

In today's world, convenience trumps quality pretty much every time.

I guess I am biased, but these commercials look to be some of the best commercials Apple has made in a while.

Well, when you compare these ads to the "Genius" ads and the Siri ads (that didn't realistically mimic most people's real world experiences with Siri), Apple didn't have to do all that much in the advertising department to make a better looking ad.

Seriously, though, I think these ads work so much better because they're getting back to the old adage of "a picture's worth a thousand words". The Siri and Genius ads were both very "busy" -- much moreso than what we'd think of as "traditional" Apple ads of the last four or five years. These iPad mini ads are getting back to the idea of subtly yet very clearly articulating the message to the consumer.

These latest ads are reminiscent of the simple and clean advertising message from Apple that I think many of us have been hoping would return for the better part of a year.

80-90% of things people do on the ipad you can't tell much difference between an ipad3 retina and an ipad 2 screen. The issues are even less of an issue when you shrink the screen down to ipad2 screen.

I have been using an iPad mini for the last week, I also have a retina iPad, the screen on the mini is great and very usable. IMHO all this bleating about it not being retina is crap, wait if you want, but I'm enjoying using mine NOW.

The Mini rocks. Even with a retina iPad in the house, I am grabbing the mini 100% of the time. Haters can hate, but it's cran-tastic. :)

I understand the commercial should be bias towards their product but I would not expected APPLE to say one of their products is better then the other. Like saying the iPad is faulted because it is to big. Damn apple surprise surprise

Apple's next move in the world,

iPad -> iPad Pro
iPad Mini -> iPad

80-90% of things people do on the ipad you can't tell much difference between an ipad3 retina and an ipad 2 screen. The issues are even less of an issue when you shrink the screen down to ipad2 screen.

Only if you are blind.

I'd say less that people can't notice, and more that 80-90% of people won't care for most uses.

20/20 vision my friend. Side by side comparisons. You can't see the pixels as much when the screen real estate is smaller as well, would I have preferred a retina model? Sure, but that would keep costs lower too; I don't need a retina model currently for my needs as I said 80-90% of the stuff I use it for I can't tell a huge difference in the quality side by side. Guess that's great for me, then. And anyone I've asked to look at them side by side in my office. :) Guess they are all blind. Sucks your vision is so awesome it makes you bitter. :)

Somehow I managed to misread the title of this article as "Apple Airs Two New Apple Television Ads," and I thought there was some major product announcement I'd somehow missed

Good ad, if a little deceptive. The mini's screen is to the iPad 4s like and original painting is to a photo copy of it. (I'm not saying it's bad, just that it's not as clear and Apple is trying to imply the mini is equal to the iPad 4, just smaller.

It's not ridiculous. The power requirements of the Retina display are too great for the mini right now.

At least they got rid or fired whoever were responsible for those Olympic ads.

I like the new ads. Ads are one of the things that Apple really does better than anyone else. In contrast, all Samsung can do in their ads is bashing Apple and its "fanboys".

...don't forget you can 'TAP' your Samsung GS3s together and share playlists or home made porn videos from your wife ;)

They said the same thing about the iPad 3...it would be heavier, thicker, have a shorter battery life and be more expensive.

And you saw how that turned out.

They have the technology and capability now.

You
Are
Wrong

The best advertising is showing someone use the product in real world situations with real interaction (not simulated like Samsung, Sony, Google, etc).

or i can wait and buy 1,800 shares of aapl in 2014 for 300K.

i'll wait.....

"Books" is for the left-brain folks and "photos" is for the right-brains. I like them both.

Yeah OK, the "Books" one doesn't really say very much, other than that one can read iBooks on the iPad Mini.

But anybody who's used an iPhone or iPod Touch knows you can read an e-book on a smaller screen.

This is really just aimed at that mythical "undecided voter" who's trying to decide on an e-reader for the holidays.

The "Photos" ad was great though, you can tell a fair amount of time was put into it.
