Apple AirTag 2: Four New Features Found in iOS 26 Code

There should be a rechargeable version that uses the magnetic Apple Watch cable.

I’d be far more apt to recharge it more frequently, than infrequently order the batteries I never keep on-hand.

Well there needs to be a better way then what it is now.
 
Glad they're updating it to make it easier to track objects while moving.

Apple must know how many of us are putting them on our pets!
 
Improved tracking in crowded areas will be useful. Overall it will be a small update and expecting Apple to launch it in April at the same price. Looking forward to seeing the other new devices too.

How about we fix the precision location issue that plagues iphone 15 Plus and Pro users first! Ever since ios 26 we have been unable to use precision tracking. Many of us have reported the issue to Apple and we are told it is a known issue and being addressed. When? Nothing is ios 26.1 and no report of it being addressed in 26.2 betas?
 
It would be nice if you could disable the chirp when you press the airtag. My luggage airtag is always chirping because of my overpacked luggage.
 
Have both pro 2 and pro 3. Update went fine, exept for both cases. They wont update. Tried 3 times.
Think the pro 3 have a bit better sound then before the update. What i did noticed right away that connecting to not apple equipment went much better and faster. Like my LG tv and Marantz. Dont understand why it wont update both cases?

You're welcome. I don't have a need for a case like this, but I use several of their other products. I use their magnetic case on the frame of my truck, and it stays put even when going off-road.

I have their adhesive ones, but the magnetic ones are great too. BTW they now have a 10 year one using AA batteries. A bit more expensive and larger, but 10 years! :)
 
As feared the update to ios 26.2 does not fix the precise location air tag issue for iPhone 15 Pro and Plus users. i just downloaded it and tried on my air tags. No luck

Maybe take a vote before declaring "we would all..."?

Bult-in batteries require taking the device out of service for the time it takes to charge. Swapping batteries takes seconds.

Some use cases can stand taking the device offline for hours to charge, others cannot.
