Can someone else confirm. If I’m new to the program and apply for the loan when I preorder. Am I given a shipment date while waiting to be approved? Don’t want to lose my spot if I wait an hour to get approved. Not sure how instant it is.

Someone quote me.

I'd say no. It puts them on par with those buying outright...no reason it would put them ahead. They still need to "checkout" like everyone else.
Depends if you the upgrade program pre lets you pick the phone you want and size and if it's in the bag or not. Still the risk with IUP will still be if there is enough stock for in store collection

If you need a loan to get a phone, maybe you shouldn't be getting it in the first place. I know I sound like an elitist or something, but still....

Lol this is the most ridiculous thing I’ve read. It’s a 0% loan. I’ve bought tons of iPhones since the first one. Buying outright doesn’t make sense to me. I either end up selling the phone for half what I bought it or I keep it and it sits around not being used. Why wouldn’t I make monthly payments, be able to trade my phone back in a year later, and have the newest phone every year? It’s practically the same as buying it and selling it back only without the need to find a buyer.

This isn’t an unfair advantage either. All it does is puts upgrade program members in the same boat as everyone else since there won’t be a delay in processing their phone order due to approving the loan.

Starting on Monday, October 23, iPhone Upgrade Program customers will be able to get a "head start" on the iPhone X pre-order process by getting pre-approved for an iPhone Upgrade Program loan.
This is saying 1 of two things to me.

1. Get pre-approved for an iPhone Upgrade loan. You will still be at the mercy of your internet connection or phone line when it comes to getting a phone ordered on Oct. 27. All this does is ensure you don't have to try to get approved on the 27th and then order your phone.

or

2. The head start automatically puts you in the queue for getting a phone so when the 27th rolls around you're already good to go.

If it's 2 - good for those who really want the phone. If it's 1 - I don't get it. I'm prolly missin a whollota stuff.

I'm under the impressive all IUP has to be done in store and not delivered.

If you have the phone favorited I wonder if it's a one click check out if buying outright. That's how it was with the 8 and preapprovals.

What MR writes about is NOT my reality:
- Within the Apple Store app/Apple website I get a message saying "Good news. You're eligible for a new iPhone"
- The next page says "Which iPhone would you like?" and for the X, it says in red "Pre-order on 10.27" - nothing about a 10.23 upgrade (cf. attachment).
So, where is MR getting its information?

Anybody can corroborate what this article is about?
Does this depend on being the lucky one getting an announcement?

Of course. It Apple/carriers were charging a few % interest then I could see the program is stupid vs cash argument at least. But 0% is 0%

Another 235 words to deprive already ripped-off customers once again by the fake idea of being privileged.
Its abbreviation is: getting Cooked
This is where overcapitalist billionaire ego's want ordinary people to overspend to become part of their "scene" (to enrich our lives, that is....!)
I pass for that illusion. Notchers they are.

"...likely available stock will sell out quickly, so it could be difficult to get an iPhone X for the remainder of the year."

Omg, I think that was not dramatic enough. Even if Kuo should be right there would still be 25 Mio. iPhones sold in this quarter alone. So if you pre-order you should be getting it.

I wonder if this is to cut down on the insanity of preorder time as a gesture of improved logistics, or if Apple anticipates X preorders may underwhelm and want to make it as convenient as possible to secure more sales for people on the fence.

It's not about that for me. It's about upgrading every year without having to worry about selling the previous device.
I intended to use the upgrade program for many years to come-- so I'm effectively paying only half the price for every phone before the very last one I use while on the program.

Correct, I have no problem paying for a phone out of pocket each year but to me this is "phone as a service" much like SaaS, I pay a monthly fee and simply exchange for the next phone each year. It's simple and I'm not worried about the cost.

I wouldn't do this if this was available where I am from for the sole reason that if you get a 'loan like this you will get less money for a home loan.
Just this year every loan will be registered here including phone plans, the idea is if you have this you'll have less money to pay off your home loan.

Perhaps try reading the entire article?

They'd better address the real issue here namely the shortages at release date. With this move they just made all types of customers equally unhappy about the ridiculous stampede on the launch day.

This is gonna backfire somehow...
At least they are trying after last years debacle with the upgrade program. Apple upset a lot of upgrade customers and apparently listened this time. Hopefully it goes smooth but you are right, someone is gonna bitch about something this go around. From not enough units, after we have been bombarded with manufacturing updates to incompetent "employees", we will hear it all.
