^^Your post was a lame read.

Anyway, maybe its not Apple's choice in this case. I'm sure they'd put a dual core, dual proc 3.0GHz G5 in the PowerMac if they could, but IBM can't do it yet. If IBM can't supply enough of them, or produce them in a high enough yield, then Apple can't release them in PMacs before Intel and AMD release theirs for Windows systems, can they? The suggestion that they do so is good, but its easier said than done, I'm sure. There are lots of factors we don't consider.

How do you know they can't supply enough?
The pdf's confirm that the dual-core's are at it's final stages and the heat can be controlled, this was put on IBM's website in March for whatever reason but i imagine they have already started ramping up supply for a WWDC annnouncement and for a release in August. The dual 2.5 clearly had supply issues when it was released with huge waiting lists, if Steve can put dual-core's in the Powermacs and announce it, he will.

I agree the post was lame.

- The "attention-getting" headline is something best left to elementary school children.
- TS does lean towards the new computers being dual core in their original post.
- The machine specs you cite seemed to be pulled out your butt, whereas TS has a proven track record. So why criticize them, when all you can offer is your own made up / hoped for specs?

After a great deal of thought, I realized that even if TS's lineup is not dual-core, a low price point could offset a lot of the disappointment. If the base model is a dual 2.0ghz machine for $1500, that would be quite a boon for Apple and bring it back into price competitiveness with PCs.

the 9650 dose not exist period, it was a dubbed name for the mobility 9700 thats it, it was a probably a typo on think secrets part.

now i know for a fact that a small 200MHz speed bum will not happen, something bigger is in store and even dual 2.5GHz g5 owners will consider updating.

Why are they on tightropes? I don't get the analogy. On the tightrope you make the slightest mistake and you're dead, but how does that apply?
Because if they don't go dual-core they will be left behind for a long time. The 200 MHz upgrade ThinkSecret has "confirmed" appear to be of single-core. If ThinkSecret is correct and it's single-core, it'll be extremely embarrassing for both Apple and IBM. 10 months, same core, same processor, only 200 MHz increase. It'll be a mistake not to go dual-core soon.

Then why do they contradict themselves with the L2 cache information. If they knew it was going to have 512KB L2 cache, why bother claim it as the dual core; the 970MP has 1 MB L2 cache per core.

Seemed? Didn't I make it clear that it was a pure guess. I already made it clear that no one knows the clock speeds so it could be anything. I could be wrong, but I think ThinkSecret is wrong on this one because of their contradictions.

Perhaps, but what about the high-end segment? Final Cut Pro users? Shake users? etc.

it's a setup

NICE catch i completely missed it, also some speculating but what if Apple is messing around with think secret? you just may never know!
Mr Jobs has the 'reliable source' (X) by his/her b***s. Every rumor with minor, or big (like it is the case now) differences from the eventual products was used to find X. The way you used to deal with solving a nasty extension conflict.
The new ones will be dual core, it's a good rumor but still better then what's coming out if Apple with Mr Jobs playing extension manager detective.

I don't doubt that the next revision will be a dual 2.7GHz 970FX only cause I am a pessimest when it comes to things like this. So, I doubt we'll see dual dual core. If you don't get your hopes up, then you wont be let down.

I think the perceived Intel & AMD beating IBM to the dual core game is due to the labour of effort IBM did for AMD a few years ago - 1yr before they released the SOI Opteron. Remember AMD couldnt get it right; even though IBM should them how to do it; they went back to IBM for a hands on demo in their labs so to speak.

Also IBM have been concentrating, along with Sony & Panasonic?, on the Cell cpu.

I'm not worried about Intel/AMD beating IBM/Apple's PowerPC G5 partnership to the dual-core party. That is just enough reason for Apple to make a camio appearance.....and oh what an appearance it'll be if their cpu's offer so much more performance with so much less heat and use so much less power.

here's to hoping.
