planting who knows. not issuing a separate fix ios6 for ios7 ready devices whose owners want to keep on running ios6 is however strategic move.

i dont like automatic downloads taking up to 50% of the space of the device (ie 8 gig iphone) and please tell me where that setting is located.

And yet Apple just recently releases iOS 6.1.6. Apple could have simply done nothing and like lilo777 states that is the sole reason why people are updating to iOS 7 because they have no other choice. And I know that iOS 6 is at the end of its life cycle.

The average user will update their iOS 7 capable device because they want to not because they are forced to do so. You can speculate all you want about what you feel was a strategic move on the part of Apple but that does not make it the reason why people updated to iOS 7. The average iOS user isn't tech savy.

Turn automatic downloads off: Settings->General->Backgound App Refresh, Settings->iTunes & App Store. These control two different types of automatic updates.

for devices that can not run ios7 not for devices that can run ios7 although less than great.

that may be the original reason but when you cant go back then it becomes forced.

sorry those settings have nothing to do with the automatic ios7 download on ios6 devices. google the bolded part and find out.

I see what you are talking about. I remember reading about that issue with people not having enough available storage left on their devices for the iOS 7 download.

Samsung is outgrowing Apple by 30% (+1% vs +1.3%), Apple is doomed!;)

lol, more like the re-arranging of the Android deck chairs than anything else; HTC with the uncertain future along with the royal screw jobs they gave HTC One X/X+ customers I'm not surprised people are jumping ship. If you're going to purchase a phone off contract for what pretty much all the vendors charge you're going to make damn sure the company is going to be around in a year or two.

- Getting the update file off of an iPhone is a hassle but some people claim to have done it.
Such as in this Apple discussion.
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5379403?start=15&tstart=0
- With an older iPhone that has only 8 Gigs of memory, the iOS 7 update file is a big deal.

My family has several iOS devices and they are all still on iOS 6.
(Right now we do not use them with public wi-fi due to older iOS security issues.)
The iPhones and iPads have the automatic downloaded iOS 7 update files.
We have enough memory on each device to live with that.
- We are waiting for iOS 7.1 before we take the iOS 7 plunge since it is suppossed to fix several problems with iOS 7 including speed issues on older iPads.

Still samsung is growing market share faster than apple. Same situation is reflected in the world wide numbers.

But in terms of the premium segment they are still by far the leader in both units shipped and overall revenue as well as profits.

There is nothing premium about iphones. iphones are cheaper to make and have lower hardware spec than galaxy or note but sold at a higher price.. Unless if you think pasting an apple logo on the back constitute premium.

Assuming you don't mind receiving zero software updates 18 months after purchasing phone then I'm sure the Samsung Galaxy is great value. Btw, the cost of a Galaxy S4 is roughly the same as an iPhone 5S so it isn't as though there is a huge price difference.

I bought my S4 when it first came out less than a year ago and it's gotten two major updates including KitKat (latest Android version) last month.

Also, S4 is being heavily discounted nowadays in preparation for the launch of the S5.

According to Apple, 82% of devices are running iOS 7. Did someone put a gun to people's heads and force them to buy an iOS device or upgrade their existing one?

Actually, yes. iOS 7 was pre-downloaded to iOS devices and users had to either upgrade or lose 1.something gigabyte of storage and they didn't give people the option to delete it. That is "put a gun to people's heads " imo. Apple even got sued for that.

Statistics are such great ways to hide the truth.

Android is not one thing. Android is not one vendor. Android is not compatible with Android.

iOS is one thing. iOS is all by Apple.

So, if we were to redo that chart in an honest manner it would be Apple at the top and way down below them would be all the little Android cloners.

I see iPhones, iPads and iPodTouches all around. I almost never see Androids.

You don't see the Android phones because they all look like the iPhone at first glance. :D
