Apple and Major League Soccer today announced that the MLS Season Pass is set to launch on February 1, 2023, with the new subscription service available to fans in more than 100 countries and regions. Available in the Apple TV app, the MLS Season Pass can be accessed on Apple devices, Smart TVs, consoles, set-top boxes, and on the web with the tv.apple.com website.

The Season Pass will include every live MLS regular-season match, the playoffs, and the Leagues Cup, with no blackouts. Apple says that the MLS Season Pass will bring MLS to a much bigger worldwide audience.
"There isn't a more perfect time to introduce MLS Season Pass, coming off the heels of the most dramatic MLS Cup in history and with MLS as the fastest-growing soccer league in the world," said Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of Services. "We're counting down the days to February 2023 when fans everywhere can enjoy MLS Season Pass on billions of devices -- all with no blackouts."
Apple and Major League Soccer have inked a deal for a 10-year partnership. All 29 MLS clubs will have an Apple TV patch in a different color to mark agreement.

The MLS 2023 regular season will begin on February 25, with the 2022 MLS Cup champions Los Angeles FC to face off against the LA Galaxy at the Rose Bowl Stadium. All matches during the opening weekend will be free to watch through the Apple TV app.

So I'm wondering if we're going to have to pay extra if we want to just watch one team. In my scenario, I'm only concerned about watching Union games. Is this going to be included in the ATV+ price? Or are we going to have to pay extra?

it called a subscription service. Expect to pay for everything. it going to be interesting. Because I believe that us football fans are going to be doing the very same thing. Apple is going to take over Sunday Ticket. How will they handle pricing? That’s the question.

update- 9 to 5 Mac has my answer:Named “MLS Season Pass,” the subscription unlocks access to all MLS games, live and on demand. The service is priced at $14.99 per month, or $99 per season. Apple TV+ subscribers will be able to watch some games at no cost, and can get the full MLS Season Pass at a discounted rate …

Hm… looks like if you have season tickets to one of the MLS clubs (I do with the Seattle Sounders) you get the service for free:

“A subscription to MLS Season Pass will be included as part of full-season ticket packages with MLS clubs. A selection of MLS and Leagues Cup matches, including some of the biggest playoff matchups, will also be available at no additional cost to Apple TV+ subscribers, with a number of matches available for free on the Apple TV app. “

Seems pretty clear by just skimming the article that you buy the season pass.

That's correct. Was part of the original partnernship announcement with Apple.

That's a nice perk. I get MLB.tv for free with my Washington Nationals season tickets.

This is going to be interesting. The prices for cable subscriptions for major European leagues have become ridiculously expensive in the past years. I wonder if this will lure some audiences to MLS from them, even if the quality of teams is not on par.

I'll happily pay $80/year to watch MLS games. Been a fan for a while and I'm happy there will be no blackouts. I hate MLB.tv black outs your local team. That's the one team I want to watch, I'd pay to be able to watch my local team only. Sunday Ticket....all I want is the red zone channel. And I'd pay for all NCAA basketball and football games too for $80 or so a year each.

It’s going to cost money: “Starting February 1, fans can subscribe to MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app for $14.99 per month during the season or $99 per season, and Apple TV+ subscribers can sign up at a special price of $12.99 per month and $79 per season.”
Prob something just like that. Or an ads-included version at a certain rate and an ad-free version for more.
Either way there will be fees.

Really anyone getting Sunday Ticket will be better than DirecTV. If you live in a location where they offer satellite service, they do not let you buy it stand alone. Such a stupid business decision. College students are the only exception.

I'm down. Being a MLS fan in America is hard, especially when I don't have cable.

Edit: Pricing

Pricing

  • If you are already an Apple TV+ subscriber: $12.99/month or $79/season
  • If you are not an Apple TV+ subscriber: $14.99/month or $99/season

I am a season ticket holder for the Portland Timbers, so I will get this for free. However, even if I had to pay ~$9 a month (or less if I already had AppleTV), it is something I would certainly do. If I looked at it from the perspective of just using it to watch one team all season, it would be <$4 per game. That value goes up dramatically if I watch more than one team.

I always wished I could have done that when MLS used to stream games via their own system but with blackouts, it ruined it. I think this is a great proposition for people who are not season ticket holders.

Considering just how badly Apple botched up MLB this is a HARD pass for me

That’s what the price was several years ago before the ESPN+ deal, MLS Direct Kick I think? But… the big deal, is no more blackouts. Happily pay for that. I don’t get my RSN with YouTube TV and I won’t need to horse trade logins with other people anymore.

Nice. Assuming my country is one of those 100 countries.

I am also assuming all non-English countries will have commentators in their own languages? Otherwise not having Fitness+ around the globe makes no sense.
